I have tried out listing out the work to be done on the board. 
Also asking the pupils to verbalise to me the work to be done.
Giving clear instructions before start of lesson to get ready for it

The pupils have been able to be ready for start of lessons and one (R) has been more participative during the lesson than the other. 
Both cannot manage more than 2-3 pages of work, will leave subsequent pages blank.
One (E) has been seen to start reading a book if she finds the work too difficult for her.
