Rule of Thirds- The rule of Thirds is a composition guideline that divides a page into a grid of nine equal parts using two equally spaced horizontal and vertical lines.

Anchoring- Design technique in which elements are placed strategically.

Symbolism- Using symbols or elements to indirectly express things or indicate meaning

Motif- A word, term or phrase that is repeated again and again in a writing

Imagery- A process of using vivid literature to appeal to the visual senses in an individual

Metaphor- When 2 unlike things are compared or connected with each other directly 

Theme- The main idea or topic of a literary work

Foreshadowing- Hinting what might happen later in the story

Flashback/Flash Forward- Looking at the events of the past or the future for a brief moment to gain knowledge or create meaning

Irony- When one does/says something exactly different or opposite for what is expected of them to say or do

Allusion- Brief yet important reference to an event, person or place, etc. in a story 

Repetition- Repeating a word or phrase to create meaning/depth

Plot- The main form/structure/idea of a story

Personification- A technique that give human qualities to an inanimate object/place

Characterization (direct/indirect)- Technique of creating or describing a character

Tone- Technique to use words in order to determine the feel of a writing 

Mood- The emotion a literary piece radiates

"Black" has been used to describe people of African descent. "African-American" is the more appropriate version to refer to that race of people (in America).

The word "Black" has been seen as a sign of dark and evil throughout the world. Specifically, it was used to highlight 'white supremacy' during the 1800-1900s.

The terms "Black" and "White" create unnecessary segregation between the two races.

"It is important to mind of what you say [because] ...voice can change the entire world."

What people want to be called (race wise) differs person to person.

There is a lot of Perspective used in the first 8 chapters of The Bell Jar. As we read the book directly from the POV and experience of Esther, making a lot of the events that occur have a one-sided viewpoint.

This relates to The Bell Jar because the book has a majour focus around gender equality and how Esther suffers from the lack of it. Her being continuously controlled by men and being told to follow the stereotypical female path.

Fear- Used to scare the audience, so that they can be manipulated into believing a certain way or buying a certain thing.

BandWagon Effect- Propaganda technique used to make someone do something just because others are doing it. A sort of peer pressure.

Shock- Technique to gain attention and publicity through the means of giving the audience a 'shock', or making the advertisement controversial.

Conflict- Used to make the audience feel that something is wrong or incorrect, and the only way it can be resolved is by buying the said product or believing a certain way.

Testimonial- Technique to make the audience interested in a product by advertising someone's personal experience with it (presumably a positive experience).

Problem/Benefit- Technique to make one feel they have a problem, and then convince into buying a certain product in order to resolve it.

AntiAdvertisement- Used to make the audience realise the technique used by advertisements to manipulate the audience in various ways. It breaks all 'laws' of advertisements and attempts to expose the tricks used by advertisers.

Therefore, how did the writer feel when she was adding the common racial slurs of the time in the book?

Was she aware of the Civil Rights Movement?

Stamped- It is about racism and anti-racism, and although the back page doesn't give much of an insight on the contents, it clarifies that "This is NOT a history Book. This is a Book about the here and now. A Book about race."

Composition- Where the elements are placed and how they guide the audience's eyes through the image.

Focus- What is given more attention and what is blurred out.

Light- The tone of the image, dark and dim feeling or light and bright.

Colour- The contrast and shading of the image, how does it set the mood of image.

People/Places- What sort of people and places the image is portraying, in addition to what their historical significance and story are.

Gaze- Which is way/direction of the image are the subjects looking at. Is it towards the bottom, the sides, the top, diagonally etc. Towards others elements of the photograph or away from it. What does the expression, strength and direction of their gaze show us about their attitude and significance, and how does it shape the meaning and mood of the photograph.

Framing/Cropping- What is the photo showing and what is it hiding. What is being included and what is not. How does this represent the intents of the artist/photo graph, in addition to what they are trying to tell about the elements (people and places in the photo).

Third Picture: Represents the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci. Again it presents it in its own unique style and in-line with the Simpsons universe.

Since the readers of Wheeler's paragraph are not directly present with the information on exactly what fish species he is talking about, and why they are even significant, one can only support or criticise his argument partially, due to this gap in knowledge.

Realism began in the late 1800s.

There are 4 walls in the theatre settings, 3 background walls and 1 audience "wall". The characters pretend the audience isn't there.

Since real-life can be very boring for humans to observe for entertainment, Realism takes and shows the brightest and most notable points of the day of the "characters". It basically works like a Highlight clips for a scripted human day.

However, since realism was not real enough, they introduced Naturalism, which rather than showing highlights of the day, focused on single scenes and illustrated them in a realistic way.

Rising Action: This is where the drama/action builds up.

Climax: Turning point of the story, or the point of no return.

Falling Action: The plot starts going side ways and in the opposite direction to the Rising Action/Exposition.

Resolution: The end of the story, which concludes the plot/action.

Writing Quote:

After state the name of the event(s) and briefly describe, then introduce the characters or subjects associated with that event(s), and finally insert the appropriate quote.

Paraphrasing:

Look through the quote and simply explain it in your own words, replace words and phrases, and if necessary, also the structure. However, it is important to retain the meaning, message and tone generated from the original quote into the paraphrase.

Analysis:

Explain the choice the specific word choices, etc. of the quote and what sort of message it presents. Discuss the purpose of the whole passage and what it is trying to prove, provide or deny.

Evaluation:

Connect the quote to the thesis of the Essay/Writing and argue/prove how exactly ties in with and represents the overall idea, etc. State the ideas it presents which are both similar and different to the thesis.

The part which I really struggled was transitions and the smooth implementation of Quotes into my paragraph. This is because I failed to follow the They Say I Say format as noted by the teacher. To improve this, I will start closely following the They Say I Say format and use transitions and small introductions that will smoothly guide the readers into and out of my quotes.

I gained a lot of information and perspective of how differently a single image can be read and analysed. The fact that how different each group explained and analysed similar images proves this.

The Doll's House explores the global issue of Inequality amongst women in the world, and most importantly how they get treated like "Dolls" and object which are expected to follow the commands of Men and act as their robot.

The Music-Video (not the actual lyrics) of this song "Music Controller", in my opinion represents this exact issue as it depicts a woman (Toshiko Koshijima) being controlled by a man (Yasutaka Nakata) through a computer. While she acts like a plastic doll, moving and spinning around like a robot. Creating other life sized plastic figures on command (representing woman's expected role of reproduction), and also standing alongside a ruler measuring the body and height (representing physical and aesthetical expectation placed on woman).

2. I have felt the most comfortable working on the Characters, as since the book is about "The Things they carried" the author has put great emphasis in describing each character, atleast in the starting parts of the book.

3. The biggest thing I have enjoyed so far in the book, is the author's tendency to describe most awkward parts of each character, it is things one wouldn't expect to be vividly described, such as, their fetishes etc. The fact that they are mentioned makes it very hilarious. 

4. There is nothing really I am not enjoying at the moment. The plot is fine too.

1. Which characteristic of the IB Learner Profile is most evident in your portfolio? Why?

I believe the most evident characteristic I showed was "Communicator" and "Knowledge" in my Leaner Portfolio, through the fairly thorough note taking and explaining I did for IB Guys videos and class notes. The amount of content per entry and their overall delivery shows my "communication skills" as I had attempted to keep them concise. While the content itself of my entries shows my "knowledgeable skills", as I attempted to write detailed material.

2. Which characteristic of the IB Learner Profile is least evident in your portfolio? Why?

   I think "Balanced" is not well reflected Leaner Portfolio, because, as it can be noticed, although I have attempted to be thorough for some of the entries, some others are still a lacking in terms of content. Therefore, considering I had a given time of time, I could much better distributed the effort between entries to provide all equal time and content. As a result, none would have been over-done and none would have been under-done.

3. Looking back on your Semester 2 Learner Portfolio, what entries are you most proud of?  Why?

   I am undoubtedly proud of my IO and original entries, as I believe they illustrate my analysis and knowledge skills to the highest.

   IO: Represents knowledge, as I was able to compare and contrast 2 separate BOW's to the same topic of Women Inequality.

   Original Entries: Represents analysis, as I was able to look through my personal life and find representations and ideas that both connect with my IO project and the Whole Unit concept.

4. Looking back on your Semester 2 Learner Portfolio, which entries were difficult or omitted?  Why?

   The most difficult entry I had was my Theme Essay, due to it being the longest on demand writing piece I had ever performed. The assignment as a whole worked to challenge my analysing and thinking skills in real time, something I had never really been tested on before. It also forced me to practise my conciseness and write everything on point and focused. Overall, although this assignment was by far the most challenging, it also helped me practise skills I had barely touched.

   Anyhow, luckily I scored fairly on that writing and one of the only things I needed to improve was my use of They Say I Say.

   
   

5. If you invented any of your own entries, please let me know which ones and how they were useful to you. Explain.

   I didn't invent any of my entries that were not listed on the requirements.

6. Which entries were most useful to you as an IB student? Explain.

   I believe that the IO was the most useful entry for me, because in my opinion it serves as best "oral-assessment" to date for any class. Now, therefore, I can easily use IO from this portfolio as a benchmark for upcoming Orals and continue improving my speaking and learning skills. I can also reflect on this assignment and, thus, form the final IO next year based on how this one went: where to retain and where to focus on improving.

7. What types of entries would you like to see more of? Explain. 

   I believe, if I didn't save the Personal Entries for the last, I could found a lot more. I honestly love implementing the content I learn in school into my own life, as it adds to that "immersion", if you will. I personally enjoy analysing my surroundings and aspects through the critical lens we developed in this, as it allows to view and reflect on a same thing numerous new ways. In a sense you start seeing the world around you with a completely different filter, something thats not simply black & white, but has many shades of gray. I would argue this skill alone makes me (and us all) appreciate the world we live in, in a much more thorough and insightful way, really respecting what it has to offer.
