Coal, for one, is a non-renewable resource, so it won't always be there to be used. Mining for coal impacts society, economy, and the environment. In society, coal mining impacts peoples lives, and cultures negatively because the mountains are being destroyed, blown up, and people live there. In the economy, though it provides jobs, coal mining doesn't provide long-term economic gain. Also, in the environment, the air, water and soil are polluted, along with plants and animal losing there habitats.

The society where coal is mined and extracted is greatly affected. For one thing, when the companies blow off the top of mountains, they're gone for good, mountains don't just grow back like that. It would take hundreds and hundreds of years for the land to be restored to it's original beauty. Then, to make matters worse, the companies dump remains of the mountains or useless parts right outside communities, polluting any streams, creeks or any other types of bodies of water.
