You can undeniably tell how much he loved and cared for her. In the letter, he said that his love for her is deathless and that when he dies, his spirit will be with her. I really admire the way he phrased these words to show meaning. However, it makes me very sad to think about the situation. Sullivan sent the letter thinking he would already be gone by the time Sarah received it. This indeed happened, and his wife was left alone to take care of her two sons. The fact that Sullivan knew that he was most likely never going to see Sarah and that the letter he was writing was gonna be the last one he ever sent to her was very depressing and very important, he realized that his life was going to end shortly and I'm guessing it was very scary to him too. He said that he was willing to lay his life out to help maintain the government and pay the depth, which shows how much Sullivan cared and how loyal he was.
