Ensure we are planning for the joy factor in each lesson. Make sure the lesson is engaging and try to make it relevant to the students’ lives as much as possible.

When students don't feel that the rules are fair, I think a conversation needs to be had about the culture and environment. Students should be a part of the process for creating the classroom culture. We have to include students!

When teachers are stressed about the bottom line, students feel that. If teachers don’t feel admin is interested in them or if they are only there for a paycheck, students feel that. Let teachers build relationships and give them opportunities to have fun with their students.

I think that expectations have changed drastically, especially in the NES model. For students, teachers and administrators. I think there may be some gaps between student-teacher-admin regarding rules and discipline. There should be an even playing field for discipline where all students are allowed to voice their opinions.

Students may not see themselves in the curriculum or have access to activities that they enjoy. We could consider new resources for enrichment that appeal to students and get them excited for learning.

When teachers aren’t getting respect the students understand that. Admin should be a model for students and teachers. This is not happening at NES schools.

For the most part, they do, as long as we are consistent with our expectations and consequences for not following given rules.

Relationship building is key! How can we create a space for non academic dialogue with students to get to know them better? Hallways, cafeteria, threshold, etc.

With the push to bell to bell engagement between teacher and students as a group and the move away from small group student driven activities, it is harder to meet with students one to one to engage them on a personal level.

Create a system where students can earn "bucks" whenever they are caught doing the "right thing", and let them cash those bucks in for some type of tangible reward!

some students/parents do not know that there still is a Student Code of Conduct created by the District. I've had to show several classes the cellphone policy that is outlined to reiterate why cellphones are not ok in classrooms on our campus

Students should be explained and commented on the WHY of the school rules, let them understand why certain rules are implement for the safety and support their learning instead of just blindly state the rules and expect students to follow without questions.

Students at my school have very little consequences. They also would benefit from diagnosticians who are spread thin over the district. No one has time to set up a discipline chart or contact parents daily.

I notice when students are upset (or their energy is different than normal) i know other adults do too, but i try to make it a point to let my students know that I see them and that i notice the change.
