Strategy
Teachers show students what to do and how to do it, and create opportunities in lessons to demonstrate understanding and apply the learning.
Key considerations
It is systematic and sequential. It supports guided practice by providing a series of steps. The teacher will therefore, state the learning goals and success criteria then show the students how to do the task by giving examples and lastly allow the students to participate by practising. Teachers monitor students during this process and provide support where needed. There is a high level of interaction and engagement between the teacher and the students in explicit teaching.
Role of a teacher
The role of the teacher is to set learning objectives and focus on student understanding rather than "feeding the knowledge". The teacher should focus on the process that the students are using rather than looking for a correct answer. The teacher should practise more to illustrate new processes and learning.
Role of a student
The role of the student is to demonstrate understanding of the learning objectives and reflect through the success criteria, practice examples to fully master the key concepts/knowledge before moving on to the next task and lastly receive feedback on their progress.

Students should be active in their investigation of questioning itself on a functional and social level. Students should also recognise questioning as a valuable tool for challenging ideas and soliciting/receiving feedback. --Tanjo

Collaborative Learning is a great one as students enjoy a robust discussion and can learn from each other . It is a great 'scaffolding' technique but requires targeted topics and group dynamic that will offer the most benefit to each student.
