         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Amiria Patel is a 16-year-old first-generation American. <br>- She was born on January 10th, 2005 in Queens, New York. <br>- Her parents are from New Zealand, and her ethnicity is Maori. <br>- Her family is middle class. <br>- Her father spends most of the day working as a Lawyer<br>- Her mother works as an Elementary School Teacher<br>- She has a twin brother (Kauri) who is also in high school. <br>- She's currently in her junior year of high school, as a dual-enrolled student in college<br>- She loves art; mainly painting. Makes her less stressed.<br>- She also has a part-time babysitting job for about 2 years.  <br>- She is currently in Erikson's 5th stage which is Identity vs. Confusion. <br>- She struggles with being her own person because of how close she is to her twin brother. <br>- She also struggles with finding people who relate to her ethnicity, since not many people here are Maori. <br>-She is very close with Kauri. While most people in Maori culture get tattoos that are very prominent to remember something significant, she prefers smaller tattoos that are more easily hidden<br>- She is still compared to her brother who is okay with getting larger tattoos. This section explains how adolescents are able to multitask better than adults because their attention spans are longer.          <description><![CDATA[<div>-Adolescence is a critical period for teens and young adults to figure out who they are and how they fit into society. <br>- Erik Erikson's "identity versus role confusion" <br>- Because of her culture at home and her school environment, she struggles with figuring out who she should be outside of the home.<br>-Something that can help Amira develop a positive ethnic identity is communication with her parents. <br>- It helps when the teen's parents socialize with them regarding their race or ethnicity by teaching them about their group's cultural traditions. <br>- Her mother or father never prepared her to live in a culturally diverse society, therefore, causes her to feel lost and that she does not belong. <br><br>Questions arise such as:<br><br>"Should I follow my mother's footsteps and fully embrace the culture?"<br>"Will society accept me because I am a little bit different?"<br>"What is my purpose here in New York?"  <br>(Sigelman &amp; Rider, 2015 pp. 345-346)<br><br></div>]]></description>
