Words that were unfamiliar to me were in paragraph 2 "zinc tub" and in paragraph 5 " castoffs".

Many details that I noticed in the text are that this girl wants pride and accomplishment. She is constantly looking for parental approval and love for her work, paragraph 3 says "Being necessary to my parents was profound.". But she's also in it for herself in a way though still wants to support her family in crisis, this is shown in the first sentence of paragraph 3.

Since she was a child she had many jobs and believes that some of her employees were either smart or stupid.
After what her father said to her she took it to heart and went by those words.
