The wife is the murderer, but she didn't catch by the police and have the punishment. So what the story wants to tell us? Maybe even you beat the laws, you can also escape easily if you are clearly enough. Of course not. I think a story should tell us a positive and energetic meaning. Maybe it just wants to us that don't hurt the people around you. In my perspective, this story shows that women’s status is lower than men at that time. Since the husband came back home, he assumed his bad temper to the wife though he clearly knew she was pregnant. When the wife wanted to save the situation, he refuted with strong language. In addition, divorce seemed to be shameful as the wife nearly breakdown when she heard the bad news, which was the reason that pushed her to have the ultra action. Furthermore, the wife was so smart that she knew feeding up the child by her own may be better and being a widow was better than being divorced.
