Redlining was a practice by banks and insurers to concentrate black and minority homeowners into specific neighborhoods that experience larger burdens from climate change and environmental injustice. It has impacted environmental justice issues by placing a disproportionate burden of climate change on minorities in America; neighborhoods in inner cities that are mostly made up of minorities experience hotter temperatures and more air pollution that negatively affects health much more than in other neighborhoods overall.

I had never heard about the town of Globeville prior to these readings, my impressions of it are not changed by the information I just learned. These articles reminded me about the southern phoenix area in Arizona because of the environmental injustice that the neighborhoods in this area face as a result of the construction of highways. The problems discussed in these articles can be considered engineering problems because they are adaptive challenges that are caused by engineering projects.

I think that scientists and engineers do have a role to play in lessening the issues of environmental injustice because of how big and complex of a problem this is. We need to develop new technologies that help reduce the heat and air pollution that redlined neighborhoods face. Mines graduates could play a role in solutions to these problems in the future by specifically working on the impacts of climate change in the worst hit areas, and trying to engineer solutions to decrease temperatures in redlined neighborhoods.
