There are two topics that were mentioned in this chapter that can effect someone's health. They include the environment and genetics. Everything from water to sound can effect a persons health. Water makes up 71% of our world. If something happened to the water supply, it would directly effect our body's. Pipelines are one factor that effects water, “Water containing lead, often caused by the lead pipes used in older construction, can cause serious damage to the brain, kidneys, nervous system, and red blood cells" (Impact of Environment and Genetics, 3). When people find out that they have lead pipes, they usually replace them, due to the harm that it can cause their families. Sights and sounds can also effect health in a negative way. Depending on the person, different sights and sounds can cause stress, “Noise can increase stress, which over the long term can lead to disorders as serious as heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke" (Impact of Environment and Genetics, 3). Today many people listen to music at a loud setting, not realizing that there are long term health conditions that come with it.
The environment around us is not the only contributing factor to our health, genetics also has a big impact on our health as well. Genetic mutations also lead to many different types of diseases and disorders. These mutations have been studied by many different people, “Researchers have identified more than 4,000 diseases that are caused by mutations" (Impact of Environment and Genetics, 4). Even if a person carries a disorder, it does not mean that they will have the disorder, but they can pass it to their children. Genetics can determine a lot of things about a person but your environment, as well as your life choices, effect your overall health. “Heredity plays an important role, but your environment (including things like the foods you eat and the people you interact with) also influences your abilities and interests" (Impact of Environment and Genetics, 4). Genetics and the environment can effect a persons life in many different ways. They play off of each other and they both go together to make up the life of a person. They both contribute to the health of a person, genetics contribute to the persons health of the body and the environment contributes to the decisions someone makes and their activities that they do.

I have asthma. I was not born with asthma but I got diagnosed with it when I was six years old. Many factories produce a lot of smoke from their manufacturing processes. That smoke pollutes the air and effects the quality of the air. When we breath, the pollution from those factories, gets into our lungs and effects our health in a negative way. Over the years, there has been a dramatic increase of asthma in kids, due to the air pollution produced by factories. In the past few years, factories have been cutting down on the amount of pollution that they release into the air. This has helped cut down the amount of pollution in our air and it is making our environment cleaner and healthier. Having asthma is a negative thing because it is harder to breath when I am exercising and it could be very dangerous if I forget to bring my inhaler.
