I have learned that a lot of the clothes everyone buys, are made by people who barely make any money, they work in awful conditions, and often loose their lives to make the clothes we wear. And my current thinking is, is it really worth it? is it worth all of the lives woven into the clothes? I really thing that it s not worth loosing your life, house, family over clothes people wear and throw out daily. I used to think that the garment workers made maybe a couple dollars less then the clothes were sold for (GW $5 GS $15) and that even though the companies made profit, the workers still had enough to sustain their families houses, and food. But now i realise how many lives have been devoted into the selection of tops i cant choose between, lying in my wardrobe. Also, i think that one way this could be stopped, would if the garment workers all over the world had a minimum wage, that would let them buy an apartment, with running water and electricity, for food and any other things they might need.

I never thought about how the cheap clothes we buy in stores such as H&M, were made by poor kids in countries such as China. I knew child labor was always a think, but I never really thought about it when I was shopping. When buying something low quality, that we will wear three or four times, we not only waste our money, but also support child labor. People don't think about how things are made anymore, they just look at the price. When its cheap and they like the way it looks, they will buy it. Instead of saving up for one good quality but pricier shirt that could last us a lifetime, we buy 5 shirts that we later throw away. I don't think we should all stop buying H&M and go to Gucci or LV. I think that we should pay attention to how long something should last, and save up for it instead of buying a bunch of cheap clothes that we won't wear for too long. I will try to not shop so often, and try to pick stores that are a little more pricy, but have a better quality. The cost of fashion nowadays might be cheap, but we don't know what it took to make it. We spend more money on clothes, than the workers own. If we boycott brands that use children in factories, or have dangerous conditions, this won't be a problem anymore. Yes, people will lose jobs. But it will for sure be safe for them.

I think that companies should give more money to the workers instead of making so much profit. They will always make money just maybe not at such a fast range. Other than that the cost of clothes should go up for a better quality so that we buy less but it lasts for longer. In any of these options workers should always get a higher pay that is at least at the minimum wage that is their right.

I couldn't believe that the owners of that company in Bangladesh ignored their workers when they said that the building was about the collapse. I the owners had done something about this, hundreds of lives could have been saved. I also didn't know that donated clothes often end up as a burden to developing countries; I thought they were helpful to people who couldn't buy their own clothes. At first I thought that only designer brands had created fast fashion, but now I realize that other, cheaper brands had also figured out how to capitalize on fast fashion. The workers aren't able to ask for change, since they will simply be fired and replaced because the clothing companies are racing to get business, so we, as consumers, have to help protect the workers.

I learned about the conditions that clothes are being made in and how there isn't much done to help those treated horribly. I now know the selfishness of the leaders of companies who are using these poor workers and taking advantage of their current state, instead of helping they only give them the bare minimum of what they need. I believe that we need to find a way to help the workers that doesn't take their jobs away from them, so we can't start boycotting companies and the workers can't strike because the companies will only move to another factory.

I have learned to think more about what I buy and I have had many interesting conversations about what we learned class about the working conditions and what we can do to help. Something that came up in one of these conversations was the question, "if they don't make clothes, then what will they be doing instead?" I have also learned that the cost of fashion is way to high, cause it is not only paid in money, but rather in something much more valuable... Human life. My understanding of this topic is that these people have terrible working conditions, it's almost like we are going back in time, and they do not have the right to a peaceful protest... which is so unfair and should be a human right.

I learned the real creators behind the clothing industry. It shocked me when I realized who was making all of the cloths, and the conditions that they have to live in. I think that this is wrong and consumers should demand to the companies to change the working conditions of which theses workers are working in. It is shocking to see how the world just brushes this topic off and make it seem like this is not an issue.

I realised how much damage the industry does to the environment. I think that the workers should be payed more in all countries, because then there would not exist a better opportunity for the company to have cheaper workers. For example if all countries gathered and said that the minimum wage should be 400 dollars then big companies would not have any interest in moving their buisness. This would definitely cost the companies a lot, but provide a better working environment for everybody.

I have learnt how companies pay very little to have their clothes made. The workers that make these clothes are payed very little and work in terrible conditions and also live in terrible conditions. This is why we should not buy that many clothes and check what we are buying. These workers sometimes never see their families and cannot provide for them properly. The countries turn a blind eye as this structure that clothing companies follow means that the country is generating some income. Many of these terrible factories are set up in 3rd world and developing countries. The environment is also effect because a lot of chemicals end up in the water and the air is polluted by these industrial factories. To help this we could boycott these companies, or strike against them. We could even get petitions signed to get better working conditions and better salaries.

I never realised how much clothing affected peoples' lives. I learned that people risk their lives just for us to buy clothes that we might and might not wear. Now whenever I'm about to buy anything I think to myself, "Do I really need this?" or "After all the hard work the worker went through, I don't think it's worth it." I think it's terribly sad how workers have such bad working conditions enough for them to lose their life in order to make a shirt. I never knew that factories didn't care for their workers almost at all. I also didn't know that their lives are at risk, but apparently they are. The cost of fashion is not worth all the lives being lost and all the healths and families being affected negatively. I plan to remember this and pay more attention to the truth when I shop in the future. A life is not worth a shirt.

I think the cost of fashion nowadays outweighs the benefits. We can't call people dying in another country just for our coat a benefit. My understanding is that to reduce this we need to boycott big companies on their bylaws to make sure that people that are unpaid in bad working conditions are helped and put into a good factory with good pay. I think we need to hold these companies accountable to their actions. Also we need to hold countries accountable to what is happening. If they allow these factories to be made in their country with no regard of how the workers will be treated, its their fault if something goes wrong. In my opinion, the system sucks.

My current understanding of the cost of fashion is that even though the clothing people buy in stores is cheap, there are many other costs to it. For example, most garment workers are working long hours in bad conditions with little pay. Therefore causing these workers to not be able to provide for their families, and even for themselves, while the owners have an abundance of money. In addition, these large factories are mostly located in developing countries where people are desperate for jobs. In my opinion, this is basically taking advantage of people in need. In conclusion, I think that the cost of fast fashion is greater than what people expect when buying clothing in stores, and that there needs to be change in the worldwide garment industry.
