It is seen a family tradition.]]> 2021-12-01 15:08:44 UTC https://padlet.com/delafuentepsic/lwsik0qrermpu1bq/wish/1923013662 aliciacollinsgovkn https://padlet.com/delafuentepsic/lwsik0qrermpu1bq/wish/1923029804 A very close-knit rural community that has a significant number of youth (especially males) focusing on farming.  The community boasts resilience, pride, strength, family cohesiveness and overall togetherness.  The residents have proven their abilities to work co-operatively to overcome and rise.  The community is very active in sports and many if not all youth are involved in some aspect of sports.  They are a very competitive people.  The access to farmlands make it easy for these young men to grow their marijuana on a large enough scale to sell.  

In the 1970's into the 1990's, the community played a crucial role to the success of the Sugar Industry.  The area was known as the sugar belt of the island and much farming activity was executed in this regard.  Many of the senior citizens would have left school to work in the cane fields to provide for their families as the community, along with a few others in close proximity were termed "poverty stricken".  When the country transitioned from sugar production to tourism, it would have sent a shock to the residents (financially, emotionally, psychologically and otherwise) as for many, the sugar industry was all they knew.  The Sugar industry died and years after, a community gang was birthed.  The community experienced much turmoil from gang violence and residents worked collectively to implement programs and projects that saw the gang being dismantled and most of the members were guided into more productive activities.  A few fishermen were raised in the community and there is fishing activity which still exists.  

Just on the outskirts, sits the Historical Black Rocks (a local and tourist attraction).  The community once organized one of the popular community festivals (mini carnivals - Saddle Fiesta) which provided the environment for residents to showcase their talents and acted as a grand celebration for the community.   

The community has raised a wide cross section of professionals and the households are predominantly led by single mothers.
