Frequently when bullying is discussed among communities a common thought is “we should punish the bully” “the bully must suffer what the bullied suffered” “he should be suspended and realize the damage he has done” some of those comments are the measures schools take when bullying happens. As it is going to be explained later on, according to the department of education in the UK in their article “Preventing and tackling bullying” defines bullying as “a behavior by an individual or group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group either physically or emotionally and it is often motivated by prejudice against particular groups”

However, we must change our mind regarding bullies punishment. In most cases strict punishment may be even worse for bullies. School must implement new policies in relation to the measures that are taken in any bullying situation.

Schools must find the why behind the bully's actions. Studies show that bullies suffer from emotional and behavioral problems that may need teachers and faculties attention.

Immediate action and constant observation in the students are key to prevent bullying. It is never too late for teachers to help their students and get over with bullying once and for all.

2. Bullying within schools

The Department for Education in 2014 defines bullying as the behavior by an individual or group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group either physically or emotionally, in relation to this topic, It possess several characteristics, consequences, preventions and solutions which will be discussed briefly.

Integration and inclusion are key elements to overcome and prevent bullying. A teacher must have an eye in all students, but emphasizing those who are shy and quiet that others, due to they might be a "target" to someone. If in any case the teacher notices any type of isolation or exclusion and sudden changes of behavior, they must take immediate actions and talk and keep a constant communication with the student, avoiding future consequences and stopping the problem the minute it began. But what it is already happening? How to tackle bullying? How can teachers prevent it? How can we integrate both bully and bullied? What psychological perspective can help us prevent or solute this issue that affects students worldwide?

The article “Preventing and tackling bullying” (2014), suggests ways to prevent bullying. One approach is constant communication with the student, giving lessons regarding the differences between each other and what they have in common. However, it is necessary to stand out that the staff of the school must be able to determine which solutions are appropriate for them and the students.
The same article states that “Schools should apply disciplinary measures to pupils who bully in order to show clearly that their behavior is wrong. Disciplinary measures must be applied fairly, consistently, and reasonably taking account of any special educational needs or disabilities that the pupils may have and taking into account the needs of vulnerable pupils.” (Preventing and tackling bullying, 2014) This means that the bully is the one being punished by the actions he has made. However, is it really necessary to, for instance, suspend him? Would it be effective alienate him, from the school in order to regulate their behavior? Appropriate and fairly measures must be taken, however punishment and suspension are not the answer to tackle bullying. Integration, conversation and a following of the bully and bullied and the proper path to deal with it.

As previously explained bullying is a repeated violent behavior by an individual or group over another group or individual. This means that, bullying is considering a kind of school violence in which exist two or more actors, there is the bullied or the victim; and the bully or bullies, the aggressor. Therefore, as Unicef (s/f) presented Bullying involves physical or emotional violence, and it can manifested in different forms as...
(1) Physical violence is considered as every action that damages the physical integrity of someone. An example of this could be: hits, blows, shoves, punches, among others.
(2) Psychological violence or emotional violence is about every action that hurts the emotional integrity of someone, such as: intimidation, humiliation, exclusion. Usually it is done by a child to another. It is important to mentioned that every type of bullying has a psychological component.
(3) Verbal violence is manifested by language. As all types of violence it seeks to hurt the victim. Some examples of this are: insults, slandering, defaming, spreading rumors, among others.
(4) Sexual violence demonstrated comments with sexual connotation, insinuations and threats with explicit sexual content.
(5) Cyber bullying is considered a type of school violence that occurred outside the school by using internet, it involves principally: uploading pictures of the victim to social networks or sending insults by inbox messages.

Whenever we talk about bullying we might immediately think about the consequences of it. throughout this part of our investigation we will seek for some of those damages and effects in the bully and bullied life. One of the principal consequences in the bullied life is related to self-esteem issues, emotional disorders, loss of interest in school this sometimes causing academical failure, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. In cases where bullying is too late noticed, the bullied can commit suicide due to the offencive comments and aggression coming from the bully.

What about the bully perspective? We must also consider the reasons of why the bully do harm to a peer. He might be having problems at home, being abused by a relative, violented by his parets or settled in problematic surroundings.
How can we help bully and bullied avoiding punishment and allienation? Firstly, as teachers we may want to consider the background of bully and bullied. Implement integration for both of them. Talking about the situation is key to undestand the why of the aggresion and their behavior. Ask for help and communicate with the students, believe it or not, talking can be solution of it with time and patience.

3. Teacher interview

Interviewed Soledad Araya, Integrated English Language teacher.
a) Do you know what bullying is?
Yes, I know.

b) Could you express what bullying means to you?
Bullying is the act of threatening someone or tease someone else. Just to make him or her feel bad and - I don’t know - because, - I don’t know - maybe I feel, that person makes me feel - I don’t know hmm- feelings like jealousy, or just envy or maybe because I don’t like that person. I mean I don’t know if there is a reason to bully someone, but I’ve never bullied anybody, so I’m not sure. But I think that’s what moves a bully.

c) Have you ever been part of a bullying situation?
I remember when I was at school in “Segundo medio” I had a friend and that friend had an idea, she said that we could eat the sandwich of one of our classmates and we were, oh we were really innocents, well, my group of classmates, of friends, so we went, we went with her and when she started opening the bag and we were watching her eating the sandwich, because we didn’t eat that sandwich. We realized that that what’s wrong. And never happened again.

e) As teacher, do you ever have had to deal with an issue of bullying in your classroom?
Yes, a lot of times, when I was teaching in “basica”.

f) What measures would you take if there is bullying in your class?
It’s difficult, it’s difficult, because. Well, at that time I remembered that a student was being bullied by a group of classmates, and well obviously, I mean, the fact that that boy was gay was evident. So he was constantly bullied by his classmates, so it was really difficult for me because one day it happened something horrible. They fake a rape, so hmmm that day I had the parent meeting, the same day I had the parent meeting, and I had to talk about that in the meeting and I had to solve the situation in class too. So, it’s difficult to a teacher to deal with this alone. I think we need to have the support of UTP or any other -I don’t know-, the people in charge of the school. It’s difficult is not something that you can solve with common sense, you need a protocol, something to do. If this happens you should do this and that, you should talk with this or that person. And as a teacher you are alone, and also you are judge, I was deafly judge by the parents in the meeting it was a really hard experience.

g) Do you think there is a way to stop bullying?
Yes, but I think that should come from home. I think that parents should teach by examples that we have to respect each other.

h) Do you believe that punishment can contribute to stop bullying?
No, punishment is, I mean when you are punishing someone, when you punish someone you are violented that person, and that person is learning to be violent with others. So, I don’t think punishment is a way to stop bullying.

k) If you have to create a new method or tool to deal with bullying, what things will you implement to the school?
That’s a hard question. Well, I think… workshops with parents maybe, and students, both. Sometimes you don’t understand what is going on with your kids when you are teaching them, but then you meet the parent and you understand everything, because you see that the kids are the same as their parents. So, if you take them both to the classroom and you talk to them, I mean start doing this, campaign of make them aware of what violence is, or different types of violence, etc. I think that’s the way to tackle bullying. It’s difficult to take them to the schools, but well if you start and you have two families, fine. Then you will have three or four, little by little.

1) I was a victim of bullying when I was at School.

2) I remember that I felt scared and indefense, because I felt that everybody hated me and that nobody Wanted to talk to me or to be my friend. It was a really difficult stage in my life, because I just felt like alone in the world and sometimes I had thoughts that I did not wanted to be alive anymore.

3) I believe that bullying is a serious issue that can happen to teenager. Before I was bullied, I was not aware of what it meant, but after that situation happend to me, I was contantly focus on those classmates that were shy or did not speak to everybody, because those kids are the target of that ones that want to make fun of them. So I got scared of everyone and I always tried to proyect on those who couldn't protect themselves.

4) I believe that bullies and the ones bullied are sometimes in the same situation or they feel in the same way. Maybe bullies should also talk about what they think or feel, because something is happening in their lives or in their minds, therefore their parents or teachers should be aware and focus on tackle that difficult situation that they are going through. The same happens with the ones that are being bullied. Maybe they need to do different things that bullies, they should be more confidente with themselves and speak out their minds to solve the problems that they have, but both of the actors of bullying are equaly important to focus on.

1) I was a bully nine years ago.

2 ) The situation made me feel powerful , she was afraid of me , she did not speak to me . I believed that I had the control over everyone on my school. But nobody undertands, what really happened to me during those months.

3) Principally , I believe that bullying is a common situation in our country, it damages the victim and the aggressor in different ways . Noawadys , I think that the people that are involved in bullying situation need external help and support by the community (parents , shools , especialist , parterns , among others ) .
In relation to my own perception of bullying , when I bullied my classmates (9 years ago ) . I thought that , on side , it was just about power , and leadership . On the other side , it was to self defence myself from she . Nowadays , my perception has changed because , I know and learn about how different violent interaction on bullying situations has reasons for . Regarding to this believe that the causes of the behavior the bully is a cause of different thing that the student has been passed through .

4 ) As i said previously , I strongly believe in that both actors suffered . The bullly and the bullied need to be attended , treated , accompanied in that difficult period of her/his life .

6. How to avoid bullying in classrooms: Environment

As it was acknowledged by Valoras UC (2008) "Convivencia Escolar" defines a good school environment not only as a good relationship between students and teachers, but a good relationship among all the school community.

The disposition to a good environment inside the class is a useful way to avoid bullying in educational context. A relation based on respect and recognition of other´s virtues and defects helps to understand how different people are. Since the school is the place in which people get together, teachers, students and institutional actors must propitiate for the correct functionality of the common good, where no one gets excluded. We are not only players of it, but promoters as well.

A good school environment is built upon the following items: commitment from all the actors involved, such as students, teachers, parents and school direction; how the school manages with situations such as bullying.
Getting into the bullying theme, the school needs to have a protocol that deals with this appropriately, not excluding students but knowing the best way to solute the situation without the exclusion of any student.

bullying can take place anywhere but inside schools is one of the most common places where it happens; thats why we planned and action proposal to tackle bullying inside the educational insitution:
a) give "bullying-awareness" lessons for the students to know where there exist cases of bullying of any kind and be able to report it.
b) change the actual methos of punishment: instead of suspend the student whos commiting an act of bullying, the student should be asked to handle a reflection upon the violent act he just made.
c) respect socialization process: the teacher and every autority of the school should show act demonstrating a stand pro respect and giving spaces where the students feel comfortable to express themselves and feel safe while doing it.
d) open spaces for parents: use one day each two weeks to talk with the parents and teach them about the bullying consequences in the bully and in the bullied.
