Ancient Rome had a very neat governing system. The Senate, a group of mostly 300 patricians, created laws and sometimes spoke for all in the empire/republic.
A dictator (or something lower than that) approved of the Senate's decisions, managed the economy, and kept the people happy with whatever he could do.
The Praetors (modern-day justices) looked over the 12 Tables and gave punishments towards people breaking the law.

Most of Ancient Rome's actions included feeding the entire population and trading grains/crops for food. One of the biggest crop was grapes, which was a key ingredient for wine.
There was a small industrial business that mined, created weapons, and made glassware.
Rome also got many other products from other empires/countries around the world, such as India for spices, China for silk, and Germany for amber gems.
Most Romans were merchants or farmers, both of which trade very often for their profession. This and roads/other revisions made by dictators helped advanced trade in Rome.
