K1 Respect - Teacher Kat

Did the activities from the WigglePods workshop benefit the children? Which specific activity was the most suitable for your class?

Most if not all of the suggested songs from WigglyPods is able to capture my children’s interest. Since the songs does not have a set action, they are all encouraged to creatively think of their own movement to accompany the song.

Did the activities (Wigglepods song, breathing exercises, transition songs) meet the intended learning outcomes of the PI project?

So far, after every transition song or breathing exercise, my K1 children has shown their ability to focus and participate in class activities. There may be one or two children whose emotion is not that regulated but it works to most of them.

Since transition songs and breathing exercises are activities that we do on a regular basis, this helps develop a consistent music related activities that helps the children regulate their emotions.

Did any specific activities help children manage their energy levels, such as calming down after high-energy play or focusing their attention?

The suggested breathing exercises are the ones that helps the children regulate their emotions (e.g over excitement, excessive energy, listlessness etc) the most. We usually do the breathing exercises after any play based activity or HSM Lessons.

What other breathing exercises/calming activities do you implement in class which are effective for your children?

Whenever the K1 children are getting too energetic or talkative, Laoshi or I will say the phrase “Quiet Time” then children will automatically sit down on their respective marks/chairs with their hands on their knees. This is a relaxing posture that we taught them. So far it’s working as intended since. A time will be provided to the children so they’re aware when the “Quiet Time” ends. Children follows well cause they’re aware that if a friend of the group breaks the silence, an additional minute will be added.

I would rate it a 9 out of 10.

Did the activities from the WigglePods workshop benefit the children? Which specific activity was the most suitable for your class?

The activities benefited the children, offering engaging music activities for them. All the activities were well-suited for the group, provided that adjustments were made as shared during the workshop to perfectly match the children’s unique levels of understanding and capability.

Did the activities (Wigglepods song, breathing exercises, transition songs) meet the intended learning outcomes of the PI project?

Yes, the activities like the Wigglepods song, breathing exercises, and transition songs helped meet the intended learning outcome of the PI project. Each activity supported the children’s ability to manage emotions, stay focused, and smoothly transition between tasks. Overall, they helped build skills that matched what the project aimed to teach.

Do you find it challenging to lead these activities with your class?

No, leading these activities with the class has not been challenging. The Wigglepods songs, breathing exercises, and transition songs are engaging and straightforward, making it easy for the children to follow along and participate actively. These activities are also flexible, allowing for adjustments based on the children’s energy levels and focus, which keeps them manageable and enjoyable to lead. Overall, the activities have been helpful in facilitating the class.

What other breathing exercises/calming activities do you implement in class which are effective for your children?

The children were taught of another transition song to set the mood and get the children ready before activity or before sleeping. The class agreed to call it “The N1 Song” as a sign of ownership as the children loves it that they have “their song”.

My rating will be 10 out of 10.

K2 Honesty - Teacher Sien Yue

Did the activities from Wigglepods benefit the children? Which specific activity was the most suitable for your class?

I find that the K2s enjoy the Driving School activity / Parking Lot Game most as it was very fun for them. It is also a great way to help them get into the mood for music and movement lessons too. The children responded very well when they had fun and asked for multiple rounds of the game.

I feel that the most helpful activities were the breathing exercises and hello songs for the K2s. The Hello songs are very cheerful and song is also engaging for the children. This helps the children start off the day well and I find that it also helps them stayed more engaged throughout the lesson when they start off cheerfully. The breathing exercises were very helpful for when they are doing physical activities and when I feel that they were getting too excited and need to calm down. The K2s enjoys doing dinosaur breathing and alligator breathing during a cool down exercise.

Did the activities (Wigglepods Song, breathing exercises, transition songs) meet the intended learning outcomes of the PI Project?

I feel that the activities met the intended learning outcome because the K2s did manage to use the breathing exercises to cool down/calm down. Additionally, the other activities have their own benefits too such as helping children get in the mood for different lessons.

Do you find it challenging to lead these activities with your class?

I did not find the activities challenging but some breathing exercises actually made the children even more excited instead of calming them down. One such breathing is the dinosaur breathing.

What other breathing exercises/calming activities do you implement in class which are effective for your children?

Some breathing exercises that I like is for the children to close their eyes and count to 10. Another one I do is "Imagination Breathing" whereby they close their eyes and I will narrate a story and get them to imagine. For example "We are at the garden. There are so many colourful flowers. Let's smell the green one!" and they will breathe in and out.

Rate it with 9/10.

Which specific activity was the most suitable for your class?

The activity “Stop says the red light” worked as one of the main tools to engage the N2 children and get everyone back to their seats after helping them ‘use their energy’! Making use of the song ‘Wave your hands and say hello’ also helped me to create different variations to get children ready for the next lesson or end the current lesson. Overall, the wigglepods activities exceeded my expectations and greatly benefited the class!

Did the activities (Wigglepods song, breathing exercises, transition songs) meet the intended learning outcomes of the PI project?

Yes it did, the wigglepods songs and breathing exercises helped to align the children and calm them down in creative ways when needed. They particularly loved the 'Stop Says the Red Light' activity which is simple, fun, and interactive.

Did the activities (Wigglepods song, breathing exercises, transition songs) meet the intended learning outcomes of the PI project?

Yes, whenever the children become overly active, the use of transition songs effectively helps them to settle down. This demonstrates that when children are provided with an opportunity to move and release their energy, they are better able to calm themselves and focus, making them ready to engage with the lesson.

Do you find it challenging to lead these activities with your class?

No, the activities are appropriately simple for the children, allowing them to follow along with ease. Examples include breathing exercises and transition songs. These activities effectively achieve our intended learning outcome for the PI which is to use music as a tool to help children self-regulate and calm down.

What other breathing exercises/calming activities do you implement in class which are effective for your children?

The children particularly enjoy the flower breathing exercise.
