         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Presidential Years<br>     -</strong>On April 30, 1789, George Washington took his oath and became the first President of the United States.  George Washington held his presidency until March 4, 1797. <br><br><strong>Accomplishments<br>     </strong>- In 1754, George Washington was assigned lieutenant colonel for the mission to Fort Duquesne against the French which he successfully attacked the French camp. <br>    - During the Monongahela expedition of 1755, Washington showed great valor and emerged as the Hero of Monongahela.<br>     - George Washington named Alexander Hamilton the first Secretary of the Treasury. He was the Father of the American National Banking System because of his frustration regarding the receipt of funding from the states.<br>     -On June 19, 1775,  he was commissioned as the general and commander-in-chief of the Continental Army.<br>   - George Washington's cabinet included just four original members: Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of War Henry Knox, and Attorney General Edmund Randolph.<br><br><strong>Struggles As President <br></strong>     - He has to set an example of what a president should do and how they should act.  You could obviously see how much of a struggle this could have been since he was the first president of the US.  If he fail at this task then all the colonies could come crashing down.<br>     - Of course, Washington was focused on matters of political style.<br>     - He was constructing the institutional workings of the presidency.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Presidential Years<br></strong>     - John Adams served as the second U.S. president from 1797 to 1801.<br><br><strong>Accomplishments<br></strong>     - He successfully defended British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre<br>     - He played a prominent role in igniting the American Revolution<br>     - He was a leading member of the Continental Congress<br>     - Adams played a principal role in administering the American Revolutionary War.</div><div><br><strong>Why were the alien and sedition acts passed during his presidency?<br></strong>     - A series of laws known collectively as the Alien and Sedition Acts were passed by the Federalist Congress in 1798 and signed into law by President Adams. These laws included new powers to deport foreigners as well as making it harder for new immigrants to vote.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thomas Jefferson is a spokesman for democracy. He also was an American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence in (1776), and the third president of the United States ( 1801-1809).  For his home state of Virginia he served as governor and member of the House of Delegates and the House of Burgesses as well as filling various local offices. All tailed into almost five decades of public service.       </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>James Madison was a founding father of the United States and was the fourth  American president serving in office from 1809 to 1817. Madison composed the first drafts of the U.S constitution and the Bill of Rights and earned the nickname "Father of Constitution". I n 1792 James Madison and Thomas Jefferson founded the democratic- republic an party, which had been called America's first opposition political party. During his presidency, Madison served as his secretary of state. In this role, he oversaw the Louisiana purchase form the French in 1803. During his presidency Madison led the U.S. into the controversial War of 1812-15 against Great Britain. </div>]]></description>
