That happens for the task are example is what impact will interaction have on user? The most important reason are the analysis focuses on goals and knowledge : does the design lead the user to generate the correct goals?.

According to observational methods we can observe what people actually do or say, rather than what they say they do. People are not alwquestionnaire or tell what they really think at interview.

In my suggestion, 'Heuristic Evaluation' is the one of the good techniques type of evaluating designs that i will used if i need to develop a webpage for auditory impaired users. According to heuristic evaluation we can evaluating designs through
usability inspections which is :
> The participant (or inspector) is usually a domain expert or usability expert – someone who is practised in usability methods and has a background in HCI.
> Experts examine the interface of an interactive product, often play role-playing typical users and suggest problems users would have when interacting with it.
> Evaluate whether user-interface elements such as dialog boxes, menus, navigation, online help and conform to the principles.

This may be done face to face as an interview, or in writing as a questionnaire. The Developer using this query technique because want to get user's viewpoint directly and reveal issues not considered by the designer. Query technique by interview is suitable and effective for high level evaluation as preferences, impressions, and attitudes. This Query technique also have the disadvantage because the information received is subjective more difficult to analyst and the data may be inaccurate.

In my own point of view, i choose Query technique which is very good technique in evaluation about anything. Such as, if the developer of school system want to make their system good in content and design they can go and see the someone profesional about the school content this evaluation is interview. Other than that, we can use questionnaire where we can see if we use questionnaire we can know what the user want from the system that we build. Lastly, Query technique also have an advantage such as quick and reaches large user group and can be analyzed more rigorously. The disadvantage of this technique is less flexible and less probing

Based on my opinion on what evaluation for auditory impaired users is the cognitive walkthrough which required several expert evaluators. A set of appropriate or characteristic tasks to be completed is compiled.

The evaluators will go through each task, list all the problems or difficulties for the auditory impaired users.

Advantage of using this evaluation is the evaluators can simply play the role of ordinary users and try learning and exploring how to use the system to accomplish required tasks based on the difficulties of the disabled user to use it.

There is actually no much difference between them and the real users. The whole process often goes quite fast with all important issues spotted and noted down.

Futhermore Cognitive Walkthrough is it is very good at identifying certain issues regarding how easy or effective a user without previous knowledge can pick up using it. This can be very useful to some types of systems which do not impose a difficult learn process on users.

Then the principal of using this evaluation is it can handle larger or more complex tasks where increase the time-consuming to perform. The technique is often used in some altered form such as the evaluation can be recorded on video and the evaluator can then verbally explain the actions at each step.

In my opinion, i will choose Heuristic evaluation if i need to develop a webpage for auditory impaired users. Firstly it's because visibility of system status. The system should always keep users informed about what is going on, through appropriate feedback within reasonable time. Secondly, this evaluation user control and freedom.Users often choose system functions by mistake and will need a clearly marked "emergency exit" to leave the unwanted state without having to go through an extended dialogue. Support undo and redo. Thirdly this evaluation help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors. Lastly it can help and documentation.
Even though it is better if the system can be used without documentation, it may be necessary to provide help and documentation. Any such information should be easy to search, focused on the user's task, list concrete steps to be carried out, and not be too large.

As everyone knows, evaluation should be considered at all stages in the design life cycle and evaluates both design and implementation. In my opinion based on Lecture 3, I would choose Query Techniques that divided by two option which is Interviews and Questionnaires. Interviews can be very subjective and time consuming but it also can be varied to suit context and issues can be explored more fully. Interviews also can elicit user views and identify unanticipated problems. It will be more effective to gather the information faster. For Questionnaires, it can be less flexible but if the writer is smart enough, they can build the Questionnaires that can be analyzed more rigorously, quick and reaches large user group. Writer also must carefuly design the Questionnaires that clearly specify what information is required and how the answers need to be analyzed. This evaluation techniques is suitable for students to gather the information for their assignments and other requirement.

In my opinion, type of evaluation that i will use if i develop a webpage for auditory impaired users is Physiological methods. As we know, that have 2 type in Physiological methods is Eye tracking and Physiological Measurement. So for this situation, i think Physiological Measurement is more suitable.

As we know, emotional response linked to physical changes. these may help determine a user’s reaction to an interface. Besides that, An accessible website will attract potential deaf customers and it will promote my company in a positive light because it shows that i am aware and inclusive.

Besides that, some difficulty in interpreting these physiological responses, so we need to do more research. So i will research that Is my website fully accessible for deaf people?

It’s surprising how many companies don’t actually provide reasonable contact details for deaf/HOH people and it makes life much more difficult for them. So i will do more research about Physiological so that my website fully accessible for deaf people such as :

1. Use simple English in my website.

Avoid using jargon and use words that would likely be spoken by our target community. For some deaf people, English isn’t their first language (Sign Language might be). Keep to the point. If we are advertising a service or product, think what is the key information we want people to know? Use simple short sentences. Images also help to illustrate the topic.

2. Subtitle/caption in our videos!

It really bothers me when there aren’t subtitles on videos, especially on websites, because I can’t follow them. I’m a lip reader and often can’t hear what is being discussed on videos. Automated live streaming captions are often accurate – including Youtube’s automatic captions. If accurate captions aren’t option for videos, try providing a written transcript. Perhaps consider sign language videos too.

Muhammad Aqil Abd Razak (DB150207)

i would like to choose physiological measurement. currently, Around 466 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss, and 34 million of these are children. its difficult for them to stay connected with the world because of their disability. if i want to make a website that are auditory impaired friendly i would implement this several things:

1. Choose a content management system that supports accessibility.

Common examples include Drupal and Wordpress, but there are many other options available. Once you've chosen a CMS that suits your needs, make sure to choose a theme/template that is accessible. Consult the theme's documentation for notes on accessibility and tips for creating accessible content and layouts for that theme. Be sure to follow the same guidelines when selecting modules, plugins, or widgets. For elements like editing toolbars and video players, make sure that they support creating accessible content. For example, editing toolbars should include options for headings and accessible tables, and video players should include closed captioning. The CMS administration options (such as creating a blog post or posting a comment) should be accessible as well.

2. Include proper alt text for images.

Alt text should be provided for images, so that screen reader users can understand the message conveyed by the use of images on the page. This is especially important for informative images (such as infographics). When creating the alt text, the text should contain the message you wish to convey through that image, and if the image includes text, that text should also be included in the alt. The exception to this rule is when an image is used purely for decoration; in this case, the alternate text could be left empty so that the screen reader user is not distracted from the more important content on the page.

This may be done face to face as an interview, or in writing as a questionnaire.

It leads to get user's viewpoint directly. Furthermore, reveal issues not considered by the designer and finally relatively simple (but note problems with questionnaire construction below) and cheap to administer.

For example, interviews are extremely effective for high level evaluations - preferences, impressions, attitudes. Often structured in a top down style, starting with general questions about the task, and moving on to more leading questions. (why ...? What if ...?) Must be well planned in advance, with central questions prepared. This may be important to ensure consistency between interviews from different interviewees, and by different interviewers. It is crucial that the designer of the system being evaluated does not conduct the interview! They will be unable to avoid giving off 'body language' signals which are likely to bias responses.

And the second point is questionnaire is a method for the elicitation, and recording, and collecting of information. It will lead to a wider subject group, then takes less time to administer, can be rigorously analyzed and lastly Can be administered throughout the design process

In my opinion, i will choose cognitive walkthrough because cognitive walkthrough is a usability evaluation approach that predicts how easy it will be
for people to learn to do particular tasks on a computer-based system. It is crucial to design systems for ease of learning, because people generally learn to use new computer-based systems by exploration. People resort to reading manuals, using help systems, or taking formal training only when they’ve been unsuccessful in learning to do their tasks by exploration.

The advantages for this observational method is simplicity that requires little expertise, can provide useful insight and can show how system is actually use.

There are two ways using physiological method which are eye-tracking and physiological measurement. Mainly for auditory impaired user, I think physiological method for evaluation is more convenient. It is more suitable to evaluate deaf people by their physical changes. Physical changes are linked from the emotional response and these may help to determine user’s reaction to the web page interface. Other than that, to make sure the web page can be fully function, I also need to evaluate using Query techniques which include interview and questionnaires. From this, I can get feedback and make improvement to the web page.

In my opinion, evaluation technique is test usability and functionality of system but also evaluates both design and implementatiom. We can see that, this lecture state three goal which is system functionality, effect interface on user, and identif specific problem.

For evaluating design, design idea should be evaluated to make sure they meet product specification and are of a good quality. Evaluation can also check wheather design need to be changed to make them simpler to manufacture in higher quantities what. In this chapter, has three design which is, cognitive walkthrough, heuristic evaluation and review based evaluation. Firstly, cognitive walkthrough is evaluates design on how well it supports user in learning task. Secondly, heuristic evaluation is usability criteria are identified. Lastly, review based evaluation is result from the literature used to support or refute parts of design.

For evaluating through user participation has laboratory studies and field studies. this participation has own advantages and disadvantages.

For evaluating implementations state experimental evaluation, experimental factors, variables, hypothesis, experimental design, analysis of data, and experimental studies on groups.

Based on lecture 3 lessons, I would choose a heuristic evaluation. This is because for me this evaluation is one of a good technique that can be used to evaluate designs. This evaluation is specially involve an evaluators to examine the interface and judging its compliance with recognized usability principles. Moreover, the usability criteria on this type of evaluation are easily identified. Heuristic evaluation requires only one expert, reducing the complexity and expended time for evaluation. These evaluation methods are now widely taught and practiced in the new media sector, where UIs (User Interfaces) are often designed in a short space of time on a budget that may restrict the amount of money available to provide for other types of interface testing. There a few example of heuristic evaluation that can be made which is the system behaviour is easily predictable, consistent and the feedback is provided. Generally, this type of evaluation can help the users to recognize, diagnose, and recover from any errors occurred easily. It also can gather information that is easy to search, focused on the user's task and also listing the concrete steps to be carried out.

Query Technique includes interview and questionnaire in the evaluation itself. A query technique can easily analyse questions user on one-to-one basis. It is usually based on prepared questions that is usually made by the interviewer. The questions can be made by an informal or subjective one and it is relatively cheap. Furthermore, the advantage of this evaluation is it can be varied to suit the context. For example, the question can be made with the performance or compatibility of the target respondents. Other than that, by using this evaluation technique the issues can be explored more wider and it can elicit a user views and also identify an unanticipated problems. Generally, this type of evaluation can be used to gain more information from the respondents and quick to be applied.

Assalammualaikum. In my opinion, from the lecture 3 type of evaluation that i will use if i develop a webpage for auditory impaired users is query technique evaluation. Query Technique includes interview and questionnaire. So in that case, questionnaires will be suitable to use and can be done to auditory impaired users because they had a problem to hear. For the example, the question must be prepared for the auditory users nicely and organized such as linkert scale question, open ended question and close ended question like scalar question and multi choice question which is make them easy to read and answer. Besides that, it help me to identify what users needs and they may have different opinion. It also can give me feedback about suggestion and improvement.

This is because, those techniques is able to get user's viewpoint directly. Other than that, level of questioning can be varied to suit the context.

There are two methods in query techniques. Firstly is Interviews- Known as face to face communicating which is able to understand preferences, impressions and attitudes of the others. For impaired users they just could answer the interview questions and can deliver their opinion via speech if they able to speak or by write the answer to the interviewer. Although it will delay the time but the interview known as one best way to get a good feedback and more flexible.

Other than that, the more simple way is by answering the questionnaires. The questions will be fixed in advanced as multiple choices questions or a few subjectives questions. Users just need to answer those questions which is acceptable to them. This technique is takes less time to answer and easy to get feedback.
Thank you..:)

In query evaluation will done by face to face as an interview, or in writing as a questionnaire. For interview, by prepared question and do analysis for user to answer the question. I can do by interview the issue can be exploring more fully and also can varied to suit question or contents. But interview may take time long to get a result and more fully very subjective. Next, I also can do writing on questionnaire. This is good technique. We can set of fixed question and give to user. By questionnaire, it can be take a quick time and also we can reaches to large user group. The result, more we give more we get. Thank you..

Somehow, there are some disadvantanges in this query technique such as information received is subjective, users may ‘rationalize’ events, difficult to get feedback on alternative designs if user has not experienced them and useful as supplementary method.

By using this, i will know if my design is helping audio impaired users or not. This evaluation also performed by expert in cognitive psychology so that i will get a good result on how my design effect users psychology. We surely don't want our user have a bad psychology effect when using our system.
Expert also "walks through" each of our design to identify and make sure there is no potential problems in our system by using psychological principles. And lastly form is used to guide analysis which can be stored and used to improve our system for a better use in future.
