Since the French lost, it moved them more westward. Now the British do not have to worry about fighting over land with a militia the same size as them.

Beginning in May 1754, Benjamin Franklin wanted to unify the colonial government for the war against the French. Franklin wrote in his editorial about the possible outcomes if the colonies don't unite. To emphasize his idea he also created the "emblem" in the image above. The snake was a symbol that shows all the colonies separated. The head of the snake was labeled N.E. to represent the four New England colonies of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island, which Franklin combined to emphasize the importance of unity. The other sections of the snake symbolize the divided colonies of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The war was started because of disputes over the land in the Ohio River Valley. They fought about whether the Ohio River valley was a part of the British Empire which made it open for trade and settlement by Virginians and Pennsylvanians, or part of the French Empire. Each of the governments wanted the land to expand into the western frontier.

The Treaty of Paris created in 1763, ultimately ended the French and Indian War. France gave up all their land in North America granting the British the land and the ability to expand westward. The terms of the Treaty granted Great Britain the French Canada and Spanish Florida territory while Spain was given the French Louisiana Territory. The British Colonist began to move west and came upon more Indians who attacked the British settlers in an attempt to defend their land. As a result, the Proclamation Line established by Great Britain which prohibited settlers from settling past the Appalachian Mountains into Native Lands.

After the Treaty of Paris was passed, the British had even more land to manage. They began initiating new policies and taxes which angered the colonists and eventually led to the American Revolution.
