In addition, cooking plays an important part in my life and I believe good food brings a family together. Therefore, I cook every day. Also, I enjoy reading and writing in Chinese and English. I really appreciate the art of language. 

I would love to keep improving my writing in English, because I really want to be a special education teacher. Hopefully, in the future,I will have a chance to serve children who have special needs.

Hello to all. I’m  Alma Bejarano interior designer and art instructor. I was born and raised in Sonora, Mexico. I studied at University of Guadalajara. 22 years ago I married with an American man and we have a son.  Unfortunately, we divorced very soon and I returned to Tijuana. I used to see my son one day every week, but 3 years ago, my son asked me to come to California.  That is why I 'm always learning English and  I 'm usually   looking for a full time job.  I love gardening, designing and making friends.  Since I have passion for music, I go to dance monthly.  Also I love traveling; mi dream is make a trip every year.  I'm glad to be in this class.

     I like to go around San Diego county and enjoy all the different locations and attractions this beautiful city has to offer, from nice beaches to remote mountains and some desert areas. If you see anyone with a long last name, you can guess their nationality right way. They must be a Thai, the same as I am. I like to cook, eat heathy food. I love seafood and I avoid meat as much as I can. Also, I like to meditate to calm myself and release stress. 

I love cooking especially Thai desserts and food. I always cook Thai food and bring it to the potluck parties. Recently, I made “Pad See Ew” or Stir-fried rice noodle, with Chinese kale and pork. The protein can be shrimp, or chicken. I brought it to my college’s house for a reunion party. Basically, this dish is Thai fast food. If you go to Thailand, you can find it at street food as well. 

I really love spicy food. My favorite dish is to “Som Tam Thai” that is an appetizer. It is called “Papaya salad” in English. It is a green papaya, chili, palm sugar, fish sauce, mixed with small dried claw fish. In Thai, it is called dried shrimp. Thai people always eat it along with sticky rice, deep-fried chicken, fresh green veggies such as basil, cabbage, and long beans. It is a very popular dish in Thailand. In the north-east of Thailand, they frequently put 10 chilis or more in their “Som Tam” because they are extremely crazy about chilis. 

I am a seafood lover, especially salmon. It is high fatty acid food which is high in an omega 3. It is good for the brain. Also, I like scallops, lobster and tiger prawn. From the time I was a little girl, I have never ever had beef, lamb or venison for some reason. Once is a while, I eat pork, but it is not often. I may be allergic to it. I notice that my digestion is impacted if I have it.  

Also, I love heathy food. Sometimes, I am a vegan. I set up a week or so that I won’t eat meat at all. I always make my own smoothies. I put 3 of veggies such as kale, Chinese celery, and spinach. Also, I add several kinds of fruit, for instance; kiwi, avocado, green and red apples, pineapple, strawberries, blueberry, or any seasonal fruit. The reason is that I can’t eat all of them at once. If they are in smoothies, I can have all of them. They contain a lot of essential vitamins and minerals which our body needs. As you probably know, human are omnivores. We are not carnivores. So, I would like to encourage everyone to eat vegetable more than meat if we can. 

In addition, I like to do mindfulness meditation in the morning after I awake up and before bed time. So, I can release the stress of the day. I pay attention to my breathing in and out. At least 5 minute a day, it will make my whole day difference. I am trying to do this more often.

In the summary, I am Thai and like Thai food. I love chilis and spicy food. I always eat heathy food.  Also, I love a peacefulness.

Every day, I think of my city with fondness and a bit of nostalgia, even as I grow more and more rooted in San Diego. After all, this is where my immediate family lives now, including my 2 year-old son, Nikolai.  

However, I seldom visit Tijuana since moving to San Diego in 1996 . The main reason for this sporadic travel is my dislike for the long lines to cross back into the U.S., even though I do enjoy the many different tasty goodies sold in carts alongside the waiting cars; whether it's sweet cinnamon churros, real fruit ice cream, chopped tropical fruit salad, spicy corn off-the-cob in a cup, among others. That is, of course, if I have enough room after eating many, many tacos. I consider this my guilty pleasure. 

Last year, my wife and I committed to eating healthier foods, and we plan to grow and harvest several types of organic tomatoes and cucumbers in our back yard. Also, we will add a different vegetable every year.  We have learned through experience that to produce fresh and tasty vegetables, it is best to water the plants every three days and trim some of the excess leaves weekly. It may sound simple enough, but it can be easy to forget or inconvenient because of the daily grind of work and family responsibilities, but the taste of that sweet, juicy tomato and the crisp, fresh crunch of that cucumber makes it all worth it.

I come from Vietnam. I have been living in The United State for almost 4 months. I love living in San Diego because of the beautiful weather and the very nice and friendly people.  I have been trying to improve my English recently so that I can speak and communicate with people over here.
I am joining this class with the aim  of acquiring English skill for employee over here.
I love watching movie, shopping and kayaking. I usually kayak in Mission Bay and Dana Point Habour.

I am Monica Prado and I am also from Brazil as Tamaira Walker. I have been living in San Diego since 2011 following my daughter’s choice. I got an appreciation for the outdoors around San Diego due to often hiking and due to some short trips through California during these years. It is a beautiful state and I am still not sure if the ‘weather and sun state taxes’ and the highly cost of living is worth or not settle in here.

I am taking this online class and weekly I open blackboard, generally on Wednesday, to improve my English written skills what without grammar will be caught short. As Troels from Denmark, who is working in an advertising agency in Solana Beach, or Harrion from Indonesia, who is an active duty US military, I do not want to write in a ‘broken’ English, because English is a tool for better poses oneself.

I would like to be able to create my own written style in English as I did with my tongue language. It will be a long learning process and it will require practice and good teachers as you Stephanie with patient and time to correct errors and mistaken expressions, idioms and phrasal verbs.

Professional writing was part of my career and I still use my skills to create and craft stories that I sometimes write on my personal blog in English and in Portuguese. Here are a few interesting facts growing up there, In the 60's thru the early 80's, the city was pretty much isolated from the rest of the country. Tijuana did not have strong media connection with Mexico City and the rest of the nation. We used to have five to six American broadcast channels, and only ONE local broadcast from 4pm-11 pm daily.  On weekends, we would have a few shows "enlazados (linked)from Mexico City. 
  Radio was a big thing for me growing up and yes, I listen to it a lot. So, as you probably guessed by now,  I grew up watching and listening to English most of the time.  So, once in a blue moon, the city of Tijuana would hear national news.  

I officially moved to San Diego county in the mid 80's. and It has been my happy home ever since.

Along my native Spanish, I also speak Portuguese.

After losing my husband to cancer in 2008, I found love again and remarried in 2013 to my husband (widowed as well). Together, we have seven young men, People call us "The Brady Bunch."  All the adults moved away and my youngest (A junior in high school) lives with us for now.

Some of my hobbies are: cooking, decorating, organizing, styling and  photography. In other words, I help bring peace to chaos most of the time. I like to make things functional and often, with a purpose. I consider myself  a dreamer most of the time, always optimistic and realistic more than not.

I see myself as often inquisitive about different cultures and when I have a chance to travel abroad, I usually  find fascinating how other people live. for me, it is like nourishing my soul and I always, get inspired by what I see and what I eat!!!! So far, Greece and Portugal are my favorites and I am a big fan of Mediterranean meals.

This summer, my husband and I traveled to Europe and on our way to Paris, we had a lay-over in Reykjavik, Iceland!!! To my surprise they ALL speak English and of course Dutch, so they are mostly tri-lingual like me :-)  I hope to return and  to really do more exploring later.

For now, I want to feel more confident about my writing skills because the way things look, there are good opportunities out there where one can always utilize a good written message

    I love this city so much because of the weather. It is usually nice and warm enough to get some exercise. I enjoy walking. After dinner, my husband and I always go for a walk in our neighborhood for more than one hour. I sometimes go jogging and play Ping Pong. I love delicious food, but I am not good at preparing it. My son is a foodie, so he often makes some food by himself. He really does a great job.

Here is how and why: I was born in Nice, France in 1937. Understandably, I am a rare WWII survivor. I am, though, in good health and good spirits most of the time. Like many of the children of wars, starting in life was difficult. Later, when my grandma became my unique tutor and provider, things got much better. Yet, there was always a voice in the back of my head telling me, "Paul. You can do and have, better things in life if you try." Well? In my way in the field of life, few of the grapes were tasting good and some were sour. Backing the tape a little, on D-Day, I was seven years old. The war and the end of it, have left strong memories in me. I am in the process of trying to write my story, though, in the form of peace, not in the form of vengeance. When I was eighteen years old, I volunteered in the French Air Force. I became a successful test-flight technician and later, a member of Citroën; a great French car manufacturer. Due to the social trends of the time, I quit that and enrolled in the French National Drama School. I toured twenty countries and later I became one of the five stage mangers to the French National Theater; and on and on! In 1985, here in San Diego, I was honored when I won the Award for Best Actor of the Year, with the famous Aubrey Award, in a Noel Coward Comedy. Then, at work, as an electrician in a dark place, my head met two loose electrical wires charged with 270 volts. Literally speaking, my life came to a stop. My short term memory was about 90 % erased. My left side was about 80% paralyzed. This is the major point for me to share with you during this attractive English training. The chock was horrible. I must have been checking for what seemed to be 5, 6 or 7 seconds. I thought I was going to die. I had two near-death experiences. It was awesome.
