1. To be a servant leader is to lead with a heart. I would like to embody Jesus Christ’s leadership where He really cares for His apostles and disciples, where He serves the people with passion, and lead them with a strong mind and loving heart. As someone who leads organizations, I would really do my best to personally know each of my members, understand them, and take care of them. I would reach out to others with compassion, and burning passion to be an instrument of God’s love. I will train myself to be the leader who can raise others up, where I could inspire them, encourage them, and empower them to be leader themselves. I will do my very best to be the leader who makes my members feel loved, I want to let them know and make them feel that I value them and they are important to me, that is why I will not get tired of giving them a chance to shine, discover and hone their talent, and make them confident.

To make my community projects sustainable, I will put in mind everything that I learned from our speakers yesterday. It is very important to know first, the needs of our recipient communities and how we could help, so it takes empathy, understanding, observance, and even asking questions to accomplish this. Secondly, it is efficient to map our project strategy so there could be an organized outline of what we are doing. It is effective if we could collaborate with different organizations and other sectors of the society, as well as having a successor of the project, so that the legacy could continue, since we are not only focusing on the project itself but the advocacy. Most importantly, we need to establish the purpose of doing the project because it would be our biggest motivator to continue and move forward. And lastly, we need to be passionate of what we are doing and we need to put our heart in the process, and keep in mind the people’s live that we are able to touch.

-Mariela Lessandra Deslate

As a servant leader, I really live up and take into heart the values and virtues that I've learned from my patron saint, St. Joseph. I am a servant leader who inspires, who is self aware, who empathizes, who is grateful and who has a foresight and purpose in life. I am also a servant leader who leads by example, who is work oriented, who has that passion through service, and most importantly who is humble and silent but sensitive enough to the needs of others, just like St. Joseph.

Inspiring people to aspire more, to do more and become more is a clear sign of servant leadership. Being a servant leader, I prioritize my council's growth as a team than my own. I focus in helping and uplifting each member so that together, we will achieve our goals.

In order to make our community outreach activities sustainable, we have been creative in our fundraising activities especially in getting support from our sponsors. Most of the time, we involve our key stakeholders (the Josephian families). From there, we get support from our local government (especially in the area of concern). Lastly, we evaluate every activity that we have implemented and delivered so that we would know what, where and how to improve and do better the next time.

-Elai Leonor🐯

In order to be a servant leader I need to focus on the needs of the people. It means prioritizing their needs over my own, and understanding the perspective of others the best that I can. I have to be empathetic and listen to the concerns and wants of others, so I may be able to serve them in the most helpful way possible. In Matthew 20:25-28 (NLT) Jesus mentioned that, "Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many." I'll thrive to move based on those words, because the essence of leadership is not power, it's service. I'll remember to pursue my passions and do what I love not just for myself, but for others as well.

For my community projects to be more sustainable, I need to be able to break down and plan them out. I have to consider not just how my project will establish in the present time, but also in the future as well. It's necessary for me to think of the things that I organize in the long term. By plotting it out and considering all possible factors, I'll be able to achieve sustainability. I'll keep in mind the idea of being able to hand down my projects to those who will come after me, so I can keep my advocacy alive. The most important thing for sustainability is that I can pass down my legacy so that my projects can run even when I'm out of the picture. And in order to do that I need to continue building myself, my advocacy, and my networks so they may last for a long time.

-Angelie Marie Garrido

A servant leader is a leader with purpose and a heart to help the needs of the people. It is both being empathetic and sympathetic to the people you are serving at the same time, dedicating yourself to leading the organization with a bright future ahead of it not minding the recognition you get yourself but instead focusing on the betterment of the organization. Last night I realized a lot about service leadership and how you can put your greatest faith in it. Now, I know that putting God in the center of everything and leaving everything to him when you have done your best already is really important, having that guidance and assurance from him that not everything will go through as what you’ve planned not just as a leader but as a person, instead he will guide you to the right path of what’s the best for you, your projects, and your organization.

In order to make my community projects sustainable, I need to think about the longevity of the relevance of the project that I am doing, as well as the support that I will be getting and how my project will have a positive effect in the future. Having stakeholders as well from both the public and private sectors helping is one of the key factors in how I sustain my projects. Also always communicating and partnering with our SK Federation in my community for every project that I have. Lastly, hearing the responses and suggestions of people who are concerned in my projects for me to improve it the next time we do it.

-belle <3

The greatest among us was the servant of all – Jesus. This King among men, to whom all dominion is given, humbled Himself in the service of man. The Master washed the feet of His apostles to show us how to lift others by humbling ourselves. Jesus, the most prominent figure in human history, showed us what a true servant leader should be like. To be a servant leader, I must follow in the footsteps of Jesus and take into account His teachings in the Bible. I must not only speak to my team but also make sure that I listen to them too. To be an effective servant leader, it has to be “less of me” and “more of them." I will always encourage my colleagues and root for them so they can become the best that they can be. I have to put the needs and interests of others before mine. By being compassionate, empathetic, and humble, we can meet our goals and my colleagues will feel empowered. Jesus calls us to serve one another as He willingly served. Who are we to say no to that?

The key to understanding the future is sustainability. I have to make sure that my projects are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals to ignite long-lasting positive change. To be able to make my community projects sustainable, I have to work in partnership with other groups such as local government units, companies, and other organizations. These sectors can help me in terms of project development and sharing of resources. I must be data-driven and it’s also important to ask the locals about their situation because nobody knows the community more aside from them. I will empower others to join me and make sure that someone will continue the advocacy. Above all, I must always believe in the project to make it sustainable.

We must always remember that we were given two hands because one is to help ourselves and the second is to help others.

- Abegail Mandar <3

What actions will you take to be a servant leader and to make your community projects sustainable?

I used to believe that leadership was solely about personal gain. In my perspective, the point of leading group projects is how it affects my grades. “My efforts are for my own benefit anyway,” I reasoned. However, when I began to lead for the community, I did a complete 180.

I grew up with a lot of privileges. I never had to worry about missing meals or losing power. My mother and I then chatted about growing up. One of her high school memories was having to wash her uniform twice a week because she only had one. How about me? So far, I have five. My parents and their hard work are entirely responsible for the comfort I enjoy. They taught me what a servant leader is and how to be one.

“I want to lead you to a better life.”

My mother has never stated this to me in words. Nonetheless, she continues to do so with her acts. I knew I wanted to be like her. I want to be a leader for something other than my grades and myself.

In its purest form, leadership is motivated by a sense of purpose. I actively listened as a servant leader, for there are numerous things that I don't have that others do. “Kayo (the Filipino people) ang Boss ko,” remarked the late President Benigno Aquino III. When it comes to leadership, one should constantly be aware of who they are working with and what they are working for.

There are two components to sustainability: a network and a successor. Regardless of these two factors, sustainability begins with planning and construction. Sustainable initiatives are detailed, comprehensive, and somewhat infallible. Not all plans turn out the way we want them to, which is why we should develop our own Plans A-Z. Leadership will always be a people role, as plans require more eyes than just two.

When an idea is fully established, the people come next. I acquired optimism from the others I met at the Bootcamp. There are youthful, visionary leaders who care deeply about the community in a variety of ways. All that remains is for everyone to collaborate. As a young person, I intend to pass on this tradition to the next generation, following the Pisaynon motto of "keeping the fire burning."

Servant leadership is all about having a purpose in sight. When it comes to awareness, I believe there is no age limit. As a young person, I am acutely aware of how lopsided the world is. I find my purpose in also opening the eyes of others. I find my purpose in educating others that we can make a difference. Together, we may even the odds.

-Maulyn Murielle S. Dominguez

The gateway to be a servant leader is first to have a purpose. Ask yourselves for who are you doing all of these works and then do not forget to always put God at the center of our endeavors. I realized during this pandemic that even though we are still young but we still have a lot to offer to the community. This gave us a chance to answer this call of responsibility to not limit ourselves in the four walls of our homes but to reach out to other people as well especially to those who are in need.

Sustainability is very hard to do but with the right actions and methods it could be easily obtained. I'm proud to say that I've started advocating Financial Education back when I was still in Elementary and I somehow manage to continue up until this day. Tapping to various sectors such as the LGU, SKMF and ALS helped me to further implement my projects and advocacies to different communities with different situations. Lastly, we must always stay committed and passionate about it since it serves as a motivation for us to keep moving forward.

- Charles Joser Gargaritano

A servant leader is someone who leads with a heart and with a purpose. After the session last night, I learned that I need to be clear with my intentions. I should know why I am doing this and if it will be for the common good. We all have different opinions, and we cannot please everyone. To be a servant leader, I have to value the diversity of views and opinions. I have to be sensitive to others’ feelings and be empathetic. Jesus taught us that we should always put other people before ourselves. He showed us that love is the essence of service. Lastly, a servant leader is someone who has a strong faith; in God, in themselves, and in their community. With these actions and qualities, a servant leader can surely lead with passion and purpose and make their projects sustainable.

To make my community projects sustainable, I have to be realistic and be data-driven. I cannot just create a project without researching and analyzing the problems of the beneficiaries I am targeting. I have to immerse myself in the community and be sensitive to their needs. Understanding my project and its purpose is the key to sustainability. Once I understood it, everything follows. I have to build myself and my network also for my project to be sustainable. Tapping and partnering with various stakeholders in the community can help expand the bandwidth of the network. Finding a successor is a crucial part of maintaining the project’s sustainability. However, it is not hard if I believe in my project; and I empower other people through it.

-Carla Angela Herezo :))

For me, being a leader does not only revolves on the thought that you are the boss and that you have your members that will support you. In my own perspective, leaders are also servants who aims to create a great and visible impact in the community by the services that he willingly offers. Serving people with a heart is something that is instilled in me ever since then. That's why when I offer my time and effort in my community it should always come from my heart with the hopes that I will be able to help my fellowmen as their leader and as their servant as well. Whenever I'm making a plan for a specific project or program, its sustainability is the most likely to be the biggest challenge. However, in order for me to sustain a project, I'm always putting my self in the shoes of my recipients where I could clearly see the certain situation and the problems that they are facing. With a proper mindset and clear thinking we will be able to come up with plans which are impactful for our recipients and sustainable in the certain community.

- Hans Christian Fernandez

For me a leader is being a servant, leader is not always the first to have an idea, but should be the one who is always seeking out new solutions. One way of being a productive servant leader is discovering new ways to accomplish a set of tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. A leader to me, does not need to always know the answer, but believes it to be important to have the initiative to make an answer appear. Jesus led by example; He focused on loving people. When we focus our energy into helping others we are practicing the leadership that Jesus taught the world. “Everything leaders do is about providing service" and I hold onto it. Empowering the youth and gives people the voice to be better prepared to the world of work.

I can sustain my project by having a partnership within our barangay officials or either differents organizations in the community, to strengthen and widen your project. It is said that no man is actually an island so you will learn how to tap others to go and join with you. Because I believe that together we stand divided we fall and helping each other is a thing that cannot be bought or cannot be sold but its value is greater than a mountain made of gold.

Dona EizabethBanga

What actions will you take to be a servant leader?

One of the most essential aspects of a servant leader is having an unending passion to help and develop the community into a better place. With that being said, one action I would take to be a servant leader is always remembering my purpose and effects. During the talk yesterday, the speaker mentioned that passion may potentially die, and to counter such circumstances, I always have to remind myself that I am developing the community into a better place and I am granting opportunities for many individuals to grow through my efforts. Just by integrating such mindset into my life, my passion may never die and I may continue being a servant leader. Another action I will take to be a servant leader is to follow the leadership model our Lord Jesus has presented. Yesterday I learned that Jesus is the main example of a servant leader because he was capable to make others grow alongside with him without any personal benefit in mind. By following the leadership model made by Jesus, It will surely make me a servant leader. To be a servant leader I will also be perseverant. Perseverant in the sense that despite the adversities I face, I will present solutions to the problems and never lose track of my intended direction.

What actions will you take to make your community projects sustainable?

Empirically speaking, sustainable projects is something that deeply stays within my heart. This is because it is a long-term solution to the problems and it fosters a sense of independence within the community. When it comes to making projects more sustainable, the action I will take is to be more analytical. I will methodically study the demographics of the community and seek the most efficient and sustainable solution that is possible. Another action I will take is radiating my passion to others. Oftentimes, sustainable projects need a successor, thus to achieve this, I will share my passion with others so they may have the drive to continue such plans in the future.

-Leandro Ng

What actions will you take to be a servant leader and to make your community projects sustainable?

Life is not a matter of chance, but a matter of choice.

I chose to be a servant leader, so I did everything in my capacity to be worthy of this title and responsibility.

When I was 7, my teachers told my mother that I am different from my classmates. Aside from being a mature kid, I have always been a leader to my fellow learners. Then, I realized that I have the natural value of leadership, which pushed me to expand my horizons and unleash my potential by being active in school.

One day, there was a fire incident in our barangay, our neighbors almost lost everything. I told my mother to spare my clothes and donate the money that I have saved to aid the victims. The moment I saw them smile and feel hope again through my little efforts, my heart was filled with love, gratefulness, and fulfillment.

The feeling of helping others became my happiness, which eventually turned into my passion. At that point in my life, I found my purpose. I realized that God made me experience a lot of adversities to test my faith, to hone me, and to help me found my way.

As I grow older, I have been challenged several times and it made me stuck in the cross-road of choices, whether to continue or to give up. However, seeing how far I have gone and how impactful I became, I chose to keep going. Servant leaders have values and principles which are centered to the welfare of people, that's why reassess myself, rediscover my purpose and redirect my steps for me to live in God's purpose and plan.

It all started with faith, I believed in myself, I trusted the Lord and he helped me to become a servant leader. Selfless, Compassionate, Empowering, Progressive, Reverent, Committed, Passionate, Determined, Well-aware, Faithful, Sensitive, Genuine, and Remarkable. These are some of the traits of a servant leader and I believe I am him.

Meanwhile, in making my projects sustainable I always make sure that I know and I can translate my vision into reality. I always start implementing my projects with research. By knowing WHAT are the problems, WHAT are the needs, WHAT I can do and WHO are affected, and WHO should I involve and WHO can help me sustain or expand this advocacy. Next is to know my purpose, WHY I am doing this, WHY should we resolve these problems, and WHY these problems were not addressed.

After knowing the WHAT, WHO, AND WHY it is not time to plan WHEN and HOW can we ensure the sustainability and success of the project. By setting up a time frame and a framework of the project, we will be able to identify the needs, requirements, the best practice to pull off the project.

This is where EMPOWERMENT AND RESOURCEFULNESS play a vital role in building a project. It is important that we will be able to pass, share and inspire others to continue what we have started for us to create ripples of change and make a difference for the future generation.

Also, the most substantial thing leaders must be reminded of is their purpose, which will ignite their passion and commitment in serving the people and our country. We should always offer and have faith to the Lord to help us carry out the projects with our pure intention to help others.

Impact the people to impact the whole community.

-ISRAEL HANS S.

There are a lot of things to consider to be an effective servant leader. The things we want to have in society should be anchored to the commandments of the Supreme Being, goodness for everyone, and being grounded to our noble purpose. First thing is we should sharpen our self, we have to strengthen our self, after that, we should share it to everyone. Radiating the goodness means amplifying the voices. Lastly, is the sustainability or consistency of our actions. The project we want to build or make within the veracity of the community should have a continuous effect.
-John Henry S.

In conducting sustainable community projects as a servant leader, I must first engage with the community. Being knowledgeable about their problems and situations would help us analyze and come up with projects and programs for them. These solutions must also be sustainable for it could benefit them for a long period of time and would preserve what’s left for the future generations. Also, it would be beneficial for us to participate in programs and events which implement sustainable projects. Lastly, we must work with our hearts. With the sincerity of our intentions to help, the Lord above would help and lead our way to the improvement of our community.

MA. TOIZA B. GORANTES
