This applied research project focused on high school level courses delivered in an online, self-paced format, and determined how learners’ self-efficacy could be enhanced with the introduction a community of inquiry (CoI) framework. As online learning continues to grow, students continue to feel isolated, and online courses continue to have higher withdrawal rates than face to face courses. Self-efficacy was used as the theoretical framework as it accounted for the diversity of learners’ experience. A meta synthesis was used as the methodology. The findings and analysis discussed how self-efficacy could be enhanced within this context using parts of a CoI; however, a full CoI implementation was not recommended. Moving forward, four recommendations were made to enhance self-efficacy within these courses. Future research on self-efficacy within this context is paramount because as online learning is continuing to grow we must find ways to improve the overall experience for our learners.

If you have any more questions regarding my research, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions.
