This is a global Nike commercial with the title “Rallying Cry” that extols the influential power of female determination and showcases how women are able to overcome boundaries through sport. The ad contains women from different countries inspiring each other as they look forward to a new era in sports led by Tayla Harris an Australian born boxer and AFLW player, who would be leading the charge in sports through her talent and grit. The ad is influential because it demonstrates how strong women are and their spirit of dedication that has been helping them to lead their cities and move their cultures forward through sport. It affected me because it emphasizes on empowering all women and girls globally via sport which is an IB global issue. Sport is recognized as one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls, which is one of the key priorities of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals . This advertisement acts like a rallying cry for women to find their inner strength through sports thereby encouraging even more women to push beyond what they thought was impossible .

Find Your Greatness

Nike’s “Find Your Greatness” advert is specifically meant to motivate people to reach their dreams and achieve their best. It is more convincing because it targets a wider audience rather than just sportsmen and highlights that greatness is not only for the rich. The advertisement also features regular people from different walks of life, thus reinforcing the idea that greatness can be found in just about anybody.

Apart from me heeding to societal norms that lock out most individuals from being great, this campaign contests this perspective. Rather than being the best, it emphasizes on struggling and going beyond personal setbacks because greatness is not about winning.

To relate this to an IB global issue, we have to think about “social inequality”. The advert does this indirectly by advocating integration and tearing down walls of social divide. No matter who they are or where they come from everyone has the potential for greatness¹ .This ties with the IB’s focus on global-mindedness as well as the faith in every person’s potential.
