Disaster Preparedness, takes us into the life of a teenager in the 1970s. The youngest of three, Heather takes us through her childhood up to her teenage years. Her parents get a divorce, which had a huge impact on her childhood. In her adolescent years, she lost her virginity to a guy that was pinning her best friend and he also told the entire school about their situation which would haunt her at her reunion. Soon, her siblings were shipped off to college, and she was looking towards the peace but that is all broken when her grandmother has to live with them. She moves onto adulthood where she goes to a therapist to analyze her thoughts and memories. Now Heather Havrilesky is married and has two children, she reflects on her childhood/teenage years and see how they shaped her to the person she is today.
