Brainstorming Ideas for Podcast 3/7 by Kaelyn Wood

Question:
What topic about Human Rights Violations do you want to explore? Why do you want to explore this topic and what specifics are you thinking of focusing on? (You may want to find a few credible sources first).

After you have posted your response, respond to someone else’s with the following
1.What are your thoughts on their brainstorm? 2.What else could they add?
3. How can they connect this to TKAM? Use a specific quote that supports your point.

I saw an artilce about it on Nat Geo adn I found it fascinating because that doesn't really exist in the US. It would be crazy if we had to marry someone right now and miss out on school. I would focus on the human rights violations of marriage and lack of eucation.

Ideally, I'd like to either focus or either child soldiers or women's rights. Im debating between these two because they are two things that seem especially unfair to me. If I did Women's Rights, I would focus mainly on the lack of women's and girl's rights in places such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, or Pakistan because of how especially severe the violations are in places like that. And If I focused on Child Soldiers, I would specifically study places like Burundi, Columbia, Myanmar, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone just because of how much more common and severe it is in those places rather than others.

Something i would like to focus in on the Syrian refugee crisis. I am interested in this because it's something current in the world, therefore making it easier to find the needed information. Specifically I would like to look into the conditions of the refugee camps and how their needs are addressed ranging from education to living conditions. During our human rights investigation i had read an article discussing the fact that countries had promised to fund the children's education but the money sadly never reached them. Due to this thousands of children were out of school for the 2017-2018 school year.

I would be interested in focusing on child labor, because I find it interesting knowing about how other kids live in other countries. I find it interesting that kids in Afghanistan like going to school, and many kids wake up in the morning wishing they could. Most of us wake up saying we have to go to school. Many kids there wish they didn't have to work all day, and kids here are looking everywhere for a job. Kids that are forced into child labor have their rights severely violated. It makes me sad thinking about how they are torn away from the privilege of getting an education and many other things.

In my opinion, child soldiers or child labor is most intriguing to me because of how they happen. Both of these topics root from poverty and/or war which put the children in tough environments to survive in. I read the book A Long Way Gone in our last unit and found myself really interested in the topic. To me, the idea of being kidnapped, or sent away at 14 or younger is insane and unjust. Another thing is that these children will work until they die as laborers or be in the military until they are incapable of being a soldier or they are KIA, something the first and second world countries would never do

While we complain about having to get up to go to school. People all over the world including Afghanistan are so poor that they are forced to send their children to work. Women's Rights is another whole issue. A women's life in Iran is worth 1/2 of a mans life. That makes no sense to me and I would like to learn more about it.

I think i would like to do a podcast on certain dictatorship or corrupt governments or countries that force the the civilians certain things. For example North Korea is under dictatorship by a person named Kim Jung Un to where he starves his own people and have them be in camps to where they have to work for the rest of their lives and will execute them if they dare even think about escaping. Another thing in NK is that i heard that you are forced to worship the "God" that's known as the dictator and if you even mess with a picture of him you are executed or sent to a labor camp. Then again i'm not only thinking about NK but more like all of the countries in the world that could be under some dictatorship that we have no clue about.

I can't believe how children my age is under hard and dangerous work. They all deserve to go to school and it's their right to have a good education. If we don't educate them then in the future, we will have more that 800,00 people uneducated, working in minimum wage. Which is not what we want the bright future to be. In Philippines, child labor is still happening. I can't even bare to watch the image as they suffered while we are not there to help them out of the poverty and harsh treatment.

The human rights violations I would like to focus on would be child labor and women's rights. Child labor mostly takes place in poorer countries. The children are put into work as young as 4 and they work in dangerous situations with very little pay. Children do not get any education and so when they grow up, many will not have knowledge in the morals and principles of life. But as children, they get no rights to control their own life and/or get an education. Women's rights if more of a general topic, so I would focus on women's education in the middle east. In Afghanistan, women's lives are half as much as men and so women do not receive education as much as men. Girls study outside in bizarre weather under ripped tents while the boys get a classroom with all four walls.

This topic interests me because I think it is extremely wrong and can negatively impact the children. Child labor needs to be brought to the attention of the UN so they can hopefully help the issue. While learning about child labor, the story about the little boy that worked in the kiln making bricks in India really caught my attention. If I end up making my podcast about child labor, I will share my thoughts on this specific story.

I do not know what country I would like to focus on yet, but I would like to bring the focus somewhere where students are deprived of their education. Globally, 263 million children are not in school, and in my podcast, I would like to emphasize that this is not okay.

I want to explore the topic of child labor. Child labor is a much larger problem than most people realize because of how well people hide it. The main issue with child labor is that these kids don't have a choice. Because they are working long hours in dangerous work areas, they cannot find the time or money to go to school. Another reason children are imprisoned in work areas is that their captors give them such low pay that the children are constantly in debt from all of the essentials they are provided, like food, water, and housing. The main issue I want to focus on inside of child labor is the absurd work hours that do not allow the children to go to school. If the children could go to school, they could take on higher paying jobs with better wages.

The message of TKAM is to treat everyone equally, but equal treatment must also coincide with fair treatment, which the North Korean citizens are being deprives of.

I would like to focus on the labor camps in North Korea. There is a lot going on there so studying it would be interesting. North Korea's government is also quite interesting so delving into that might also be interesting to see how they control the people in their country. Since it is a current issue that has direct affect on the US it is a topic that needs to be addressed. Mainly I would focus on the 3 generations of punishment, control of the media, and the unfair laws.

I would like to do a podcast on North Korea. North Korea is the most unknown and mysterious country on the planet. It also is biggest dictatorship in the world. I think researching the country and it's ruler will be very interesting and fun. There are so many human rights violations in north korea, but i would like to talk about north korea as a whole, so essentially all of them.

A topic I have beeen interested in is the Bacha Bazi in Afghanistan because not many people know about what is happening and I personally know a Bacha Ber Here's an excerpt from an article about it: "Bacha bazi, meaning 'boy play', is a tradition found across Afghanistan, where boys dress as women and perform. But these boys, some as young as 10, are also sexually abused by the men - passed around after the parties. The stigma sees the victims shunned by their families and society. However, 'owning' more than one boy is seen as a display of both power and wealth among some Afghan war lords." This breaks human rights to marriage, freedom from slavery, and general children's rights under article 25

Regarding research topics, I would like to delve specifically into the mental and psychological l effects of abuse on children and young aduilts. This particularly pertains to people who have been used for atrocities such as child soldiers, where they are forced to kll their friends and family. I find the possible range fo effects is very intriguing, and what such damage can do to development.

I would like to focus on either genocide in South Sudan or Prison Camps in South Korea. Genocide interests me because it confuses me why people are always thinking they are better than someone else because of their beliefs or the type of person they are. I would like to learn about the Prison Camps because I would like to know what people did to deserve having to go to them. Also because it was something that really caught my attention when we learned about it.

I am thinking of doing a podcast on Child Marriage in teh coutnry of Georgia. I saw an artilce about it on Nat Geo adn I found it fascinating because that doesn't really exist in the US. It would be crazy if we had to marry someone right now and miss out on school. I would focus on the human rights violations of marriage and lack of eucation.
