Our first meeting

After this email exchange, I went to Floralands to talk with Hollie and Jackie about what illustration work I could do for them and what they may need/ want. W spoke about what type of things they do, and they have a lot of activities that aim to educate children about the animals, and they have an interest in biodiversity. From this, we spoke about me making something for children that could be handed out at the farm park. They also wanted a map of the farm park.

From this, I sketched out some ideas.

Our second meeting

After presenting these ideas, they really liked the idea of an activity book about farm animals and biodiversity, but didn’t want it to be so long and asked for it to be 4 double-page spreads. They also wanted to split it into 3 different

activity books for different ages; age

2-4 years, 4-6 years and 6+ years. They also wanted the last page to be a map of the park and one of the pages to have a little note for the parents to try their cafe.

We then arranged another meeting for Monday, 20th January 2025, for me to show them character designs and

mock-ups.

On Monday, 20th January 2025, I showed Jackie (Hollie wasn't there this day) mock-ups of my activity books. She really liked these and was happy with the colour schemes and character designs. She asked that the "Bingo" aspects be a colouring-in activity as well as a spot-the-animal activity. She also wanted more farm animals for the age six and above bingo, and a specific bird (I added a robin). Alongside the mockups, I also showed Jackie my sketch ideas for the Cafe ad. I asked if she would like a different design on each booklet or for them all to be the same. She wanted them all the same, and she asked for the “coffee and cake design” (sketch 3 on page 59 of the portfolio). She was happy with the colours, layout and character design. She told me that the map needs another field at the top.

I also asked if I could have a pop-up shop table in their gift shop one weekend, and she said yes!

I will be having a pop-up shop table in their gift shop on 12- 13th April!!

We then signed contracts so she can use my work for 5 years. I will email her a PDF of the work on April 4th.

After the third and final meeting, I finished the books and made merch ready for my pop-up shop. At the pop-up shop, I saw the final printed books and was able to hand them out to the public.

Feedback

I received feedback from both Hollie and Jackie and the public. Hollie and Jackie were really happy with the books I made for them and have been handing a lot of them out. They said they had ideas of other illustration work they may want in the future, and will contact me for anything in the future, which is great. They were also really happy with the response to my pop-up shop and offered me to do another. I will definitely contact them again to do another pop-up shop.

From the public, I got positive feedback. Children enjoyed the activity book, and their parents enjoyed having something to complete with them. A lot of people liked my merch and stopped to look and tell me how they liked it, and I made quite a few sales. Stickers went down really well with children, and the adults liked my coasters and wood-burnt bits.

Contract

In this contract, we had the dates I was going to send work, the dates for my pop-up shop, and a license for use for five years. We signed this at the third meeting.
