Two things I love about Scout in Chapter 3 are:

1) She rubs Walter Cunningham's nose in the dirt one minute, but then reluctantly agrees to have him over for dinner the next. When Jem asks her why she's bullying Walter, she quotes her naive teacher confidently even though I'm sure she's not certain of the meaning: "start off on the wrong foot."

2) She's a grownup in a little girl's body. Her class looks to her to explain to the Mrs. Cunningham about the Ewells. I can imagine the whole class surrounding the sobbing woman and Scout with her arm around the teacher's shoulders, calmly comforting her. I'm pretty sure this maturity is due to Atticus' way of talking to his children. He speaks to them as if they were adults which I think my brother experienced growing up. We're 13 years apart, so we didn't really do any of the baby talk nonsense. People would always comment on how impressed they were when he was saying full sentences as a toddler.

Can anyone guess why I posted this video clip from Elf?

In Chapters 4-6, Jem and Scout find things in the knot hole which reminds me of when I was little and really wanted a penpal. Never happened. I would go to summer camp and find a friend. We would return to our homes and maybe write to each other 3 or 4 times. Then, school would start again and the other person would stop responding. One time I kept writing because I desperately wanted to maintain the friendship, and then the girl's mother wrote back and said she was too busy to write, but wished me well. Quite embarrassing to read.

In Chapter 5 when Atticus is getting a confession out of Jem, it makes me wonder what it would be like to have a lawyer as a parent. Would they always know I was lying?

I can relate to Atticus trying to keep a straight face around children who are freaking out about something. At tennis practice one day, I accidentally pegged a girl in the leg with a ball, and she started whining that it was definitely going to leave a mark and how upset she was because this was the week right before Spring Break. I had to apologize profusely and try to appear sincere.

Throughout every chapter Scout continues to remind me of myself. Her forceful and know it all attitude is hilarious at times. I always hated being forced to be nice to other people. I've never been an adventurous kid but the way Scout is finding food and money without even trying makes me want to go look for some things. In the fifth chapter, the way Jim and Dill shut out Scout gave me a familiar feeling. Having an older brother is annoying especially when he thinks he's too hang out with you; ESPECIALLY when he's not. My brother and I are eleven years apart so we've never been close, even now. Their relationship is still goals because Jem still tries to look out for Scout the best way he knows how.

I still do not enjoy reading this novel, it takes a lot of strength and motivation to actually read it for the homework. It's very confusing and boring and I can never understand what point Scout is getting at. >.< The superstitious talk in chapter four was a little interesting and I'm glad the book included Dill in again--Dill is an interesting (I think the only) character to me! When new characters or people are talked about in the book I get really confused and can't comprehend what is going on.

Throughout the chapter that we have read, I really relate to Scout's opinion of school and I can relate to how she feels about her teacher Ms. Caroline. I can especially relate to the fact that Scout feels like she is being cheated out of something in school, because my parents used to say the same thing when I was in elementary school, but I never really thought about it until I got older. I don't really understand why Scout just took the bubblegum out of the tree and decided to eat it, because she seems like a smart girl and it's kind of dumb to just eat something you find in a tree. I think she should have just left everything she had found in the tree, because someone could have been saving it there for a reason.

Okay this book has been pretty good so far, but I think that everyone that reads it up to this point is over all od the background info and character introductions. We all want to know what is up with Boo. The tension is killing me and I kinda don't like Jem, so I cant wait for Boo to beat him up. At this point I'm assuming that that's how he breaks his arm. If I were a character in this story, I would slip Boo a note that would say "This kid Jem is talkin' smack about you Arthur. Come out and beat him up. Please and Thank you". Once Boo puts Jem in his place I'll probably be able to follow the story a little better. #teamboo

Scout finding the gum and eating it is very relatable because I love gum, so depending on where it comes from, I'll eat it, even if I've already chewed the flavor out. Scout, Jem, and Dill are very explorative. This is one of the UNrelatable things about them because I only like going outside when it's cold. I've also been taught to not trespass on other people's property, no matter how curious I am. The fact that Jem and Dill are slowly losing their relationship with Scout reminds me of elementary school, when boys always hung out with each other and not girls because of "cooties" and things of the sort. Even though this book is somewhat relatable, I still don't like it and I don't get the hype over it. Eventually, thirty-something chapters of a slow-progressing book will make me stop reading it altogether.

I'm not really into this book, it is kind of scary and sketchy.

This book in general isn't my cup of tea, it's really bland and I'm curious if we are still in the exposition or is this the rising action. Despite the deep hatred I have for this Novell so far I connect to Scout. All my life I've been told I have to like others. Scout clearly was not raised the same she is "savage". And honestly I feel like as time has passed and as my infantile like ethics begin to fade my own personality and character grows into pretty much a Scout. Overall if she's going to act like a bully then she can calm down though. I'm down for forming independent ideas but not thinking she can do what she wants.

Currently in the book there are just constant accounts of the Finch kids and Dill's activities during the summer. The actual school year was depicted in two pages. To me, the thing that stood out the most between the last 3 chapters was the fact that Scout was ashamed to be labeled as girl. There are countless examples of this throughout history and I can't understand why so many people feel that way. Miss Maudie's perspective on what actually happened to Arthur Radley I said interesting too per say. She's insinuating that he's a real man whose not completely senile and/or dead as the rest of Maycomb believes.

Okay so I think I enjoy this book a tiny tiny tiny bit more than everyone else just because I'm listening to the audio book version of it because the lady is like really dramatic with her voices. I honestly think it's a very bland and boring book right now and I am not capable of reading it. Even when we read it in class I tend to zone out. I am very curious about Boo Radley though! He seems interesting and it makes the book seem like a mystery. What frustrates me is that apparently it's suppose to be about a man being accused of murdering someone and he's actually innocent... If that's what this book is suppose to be about then I really don't think the author should have included all of this extra info that I've usually been skim reading over. Also there are too many characters! I keep getting them confused with each other. I like Miss Maudie though! She seems sweet and simple.

How I felt when I read that people thought Miss Maudie was a sinner for having flowers... This book has not grabbed my attention one bit except for a few rare moments, and I guess everyone else relates. I'm honestly getting confused at the characters and who's who because quite frankly I'm not very good at names. Besides I feel like if the book is about a guy being innocent or not it should be just that and not all this other stuff. My favorite character would have to be Scout because she's not like most, and she seems so "savage". To be A lawyer she has to defend people and not be scary but it seems as if shes scared. Throughout these chapters it seems as if Scout is starting to converse with Miss Maudie more. I dont know if its a sincere connection or if she's just trying to find out more about Boo Radley. That is the only thing I got out of those chapters. I get chapter 6 a lot more but this is only for 3-5. Seems as if the setting of the book is taking place in the same spot and not moving to different places which does not spark my interest.

I don't really understand this book. But I did like scouts attitude. She seems very positive most of the time. She is also very smart and knows what she wants. Although she is undecided on what she wants to be yet, she does have a path and multiply options. I like Scout in theism book, I can personally relate to her.
