Extreme nationalism can ruin relationships, from between two people, to between two countries.  It is of human nature to hide weakness, which helps many things get carried too far. This connects to nationalism through people only seeing the great in their country, and how people would rather escalate the conflict than showing weakness through collaboration. Nearly all international conflicts root to the fact that nations often put nationalism before collaboration. This does not just apply with countries, nationalism is just an example in international relations. A strong nationalist will eventually be blind to the problems of their country, and nationalism itself, which leads to hypocrisy. The idea of nationalism is fake, and is made up, in order to unite everyone that’s from the same country. Nationalism makes people team up with others from their country, and have mostly positive opinions about their country. For example, if another country is doing something opposite of their country, they will comment on it negatively, even though it might be the right thing to have done. As the video mentioned, nationalism was important to a country, because it showed the support of their people - that they would fight wars for their country, and support it no matter what. This is a very negative aspect of nationalism, because it makes people’s opinions very biased towards their country, and stops them from seeing whats best for all the countries and their points of view. An example that the video mentioned, is that people change their opinions on other countries, based on what damage they do to their own - for example in movies, when their country is defeated, they get upset or sad.
