In Africa, human trafficking is a very common and sensitive subject; regarding the mistreatment of men, women and even children. The Southern parts of the continent is overall worse for having scenes of trafficking, mostly due to a poorer economy and a more diverse culture. Africa is a continent that has tremendously developed over the past 20 years, but still is working and journeying to strengthen its government, laws and lifestyles. Specifically, South Africa is one of the worst countries in Africa relating to trafficking, with 30,000 children annually being trafficked into the country, and all together, an estimated number of 248,700 humans living in modern slavery. Both forced labor, and commercial sexual exploitation are the two dominate trafficking factions in South Africa, using the country as a destination for importing and exporting men, woman and children.
3 things that I am intrigued about and want to lean more of include, what kind of tactics Africa is taking part in to stop and prevent human trafficking. What are the different types of human trafficking in Africa? And how are people becoming victims in trafficking? Are they being kidnapped? Or are they being offered fake promises to draw themselves in?

In Africa, the two most common types of trafficking is forced work labor and sexual exploitation, including child sex tourism. That doesn't mean that other types of trafficking isn't occurring. As shown in the photo below, crimes like child abduction, forced marriage, and organ theft do occur around Africa. As well as farm labour and domestic work. Women can also be trafficked to be wives, and girls can be sold as child brides. Children can also be trafficked for use in ritual sacrifice or as child soldiers.
As I have said before, most countries, especially South Africa, is used as a location for exporting and importing women, men and children into trafficking. This is mainly due to the high levels of poverty in Africa, which has to do with the supply and demand in the economy, human deprivation, poor living conditions, unemployment, gender discrimination, harmful socio-cultural practices, lower level education and lack of stable government.

The government is granting funding to some facilities that are providing housing and care to trafficking victims. This gives people the chance to get back to a better and safer life. But for trying to prevent trafficking, their government is doing a poor job, lacking prevention efforts. In South Africa, no campaigns or information of anti-trafficking is being produced and educated to the fellow community. More recently, a Human Trafficking Unit has been established and is trying to spread the word of this cause, informing others of the severeness of human trafficking. As well a website was created in order to provide the public with the opportunity to report a case of trafficking. To help people use this website, they have even set up a page with detailed instructions on what to do. But on the other hand, the government has put no effort of looking into the cross border trade of traffickers, or the efforts to reduce domestic demand for commercial sex acts. I think that something needs to change in order to help this cause in Africa.
Some steps that Africa could take can include:

better social protection by a safety net system. This could help people who would be more vulnerale into being trafficked.

providing job training to create more jobs. This could help people stay where they live and not have to leave their countries and cities to find jobs.

Education and information on human trafficking, migration and child labour; raising awareness

An improvement of the health care for vulnerable groups as well as education on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases.

Increasing the access to justice for the poor empowers

Due to Africa's high levels of poverty, inequality, lack of education and unemployment, Africa remains a part of the globe with lots of human trafficking. With Africa, more particular South Africa, being such a popular destination for importing and exporting traffickers, many people are being sucked into the terrible issue. More men are being forced into labor, while women are statistically taken more for sexual exploitation. But how is this happening?
Overall, people are just getting scammed and then are either kidnapped, or forced under their will. In lots of cases, it is common for women to get abducted on quiet streets at night, or in sketchy parts of town. Many cases have also reveled that fake scams are luring people in. Either drawing the person in by clamming anything to do with money, sexual encounters or work related topics. After these men, women and children are taken, they most likely get threatened and/or beaten very badly to give the person what they want.
