My immigrant is Joseph Pulitzer. He was born April 10, 1847, in Makó, Hungary. Pulitzer wanted a military career and emigrated to the United States in 1864 as a recruit for the Union Army in the American Civil War. After he fought in the civil war he settled in St. Louis, where he became a reporter in a daily German newspaper. After this be bought a share in this company then resold it later. While doing this he got into politics which lead him to be elected in the Missouri legislator. Some obstacles he faced was when he owned the dominant evening newspaper in St. Louis, his chief editorial writer shot to death an political opponent. Because of this, he shifted his newspaper business to new york, where he purchased a newspaper which would, in later times, be the leading journalistic voice of the democratic party in the United States.
