Clothing

We allow any suitable footwear to be worn in nursery (no open toes sandals or crocs), preferably with Velcro straps instead of laces, to promote independence when taking their shoes on and off.

Children will need to bring plenty of spare clothing to nursery too (including socks as they are always missed), preferably in a backpack style bag that they can take to and from school. Alternatively they can leave their bag at school and just carry in their water bottle and snack box.

Please ensure that all clothing and accessories are named, including shoes, coats, hats, wellies, waterproofs, snack boxes and water bottles. There are websites such as https://www.tinyme.co.uk/name-labels or https://stamptastic.co.uk/ that have a great range of name labels, personalised accessories or name stamps etc. (They also have some great deals and Tiny Me offer a free sheet of name labels every so often).

Observations in Nursery 3

You will still receive observations of your child in Nursery 3. The number of observations you receive may differ depending on what the day entails. Our priority is to teach the children and be in the moment with them.

Observations from parents are really important, not only to link home interests to our planning and provision, but they are also part of our assessment of the children and will be put towards their early years profile (If you are unsure of this and need any help, please don't hesitate to ask us).

We also ask if you have a chance to reply to any of our observations sent home, even with a quick comment, then we know you’ve seen them & you may have something useful to add.

Please also remember that any comments written on group observations, are seen by other parents too.

Warm weather

We ask that children bring in named sunhats, as well as a bottle of named sunscreen when the weather is lovely and sunny. We also ask that sunscreen is applied to the child before they come to nursery and we will help reapply at lunchtime if needed.

Illness and term time holidays

Please contact us by telepohine or email (if emailing, please include the office as well) to let us know if your child will be off due to illness and what that illness may be. Just a reminder that sickness and diarrhoea require 48 hours from last bought of illness.

If you have any term time holidays planned, please email Mrs Brown and Miss Baxter with the dates in advance.

Snacks and water bottles

All children should bring a snack with them for the morning. It can be any fruit or vegetables suitable for a nursery snack, in their purest form (not smoothies, dreid fruit, fruit yoyo's). (Please can we ask that Kiwi is not brought for snack, due to allergies. Thank you for your understanding!) Can we also ask that the snack is already prepared and ready to eat, for example, oranges be pre-peeled, unless your child can peel them already. Grapes and large blueberries must be cut in half.

We also ask that you provide a water bottle filled with only water. As with everything else, (which I'm sure is imprinted now) snack boxes and water bottles need to be named, as well as loose fruit.

Waterproofs and wellies

Please provide a pair of wellies and waterproof clothing/all in one suit that can preferably be left at nursery. We will use these items for bushcraft on Mondays, Growing Wild on Fridays but also for playing outside when the weather isn’t great during the rest of the week.

How to prepare

When at home, it would be great if you could offer opportunities for the children to practice being as independent as possible. This may range from, getting themselves dressed in a morning, putting their socks and shoes on independently or helping with day to day tasks (we already know some fabulous sweepers and tidier-uppers from this class)

Holiday club

Holiday club is run by our very own Mrs Driver and is available most holidays. It is open from 8am, then closing at 4pm prompt. Please email Mrs Driver direct (tdriver@moorfieldschool.co.uk) to book your holiday club days as soon as possible, either before the holidays or if you know in advance. Holiday club requires you to bring your own packed lunch, morning snack and water bottle. It is also non-uniform. We would suggest some spare clothes bringing too.

May holiday club: Tuesday 26th May - Friday 5th June. No Holiday Club on Monday 25th May (bank holiday).

Summer holiday club: Monday 13th July - Friday 21st August

Our activities

Just a reminder about what activities happen on which days.

Monday - Bushcraft. Bushcraft will be in the afternoon. Children will need a suit and wellies and dependent on the weather hat and gloves etc.

Tuesday - Music. Music is with Mrs Crebbin in the morning.

Wednesday - Walkabout Wednesdays, exploring the local area, dependent on weather and numbers.

Thursday - Music and Sport. Music is with Mrs Crebbin in the morning. Sports with Mr Snook in the afternoon. It may be best the children wear trainers on this day. It will be on the pitch or in the hall dependent on weather.

Friday - Growing Wild. Growing Wild is in the afternoon. This is a time when all the Early Years get together for an activity, mainly based outside. These activities are usually based in the bushcraft area but can also be offsite.

Please can we emphasise the importance of labelling snack, even loose pieces of fruit. It can get a little confusing at snack time. We always try and check the snack in a morning, as we work alongside the children to complete the morning routine and label them when we can but at times it can get missed.

We also no longer have fruit in nursery, as every year group now bring their own. This means it is harder for us to provide a back up if snack if snack is forgotten or there has been a mix up.

Please ensure there is a hat and suncream to keep in school/ bring each day in book bags. These don’t need to be red, just fit for purpose! Although encouraging independence, the adults may need to assist with applying suncream to ensure even and proper coverage.
