         <description><![CDATA[<div>Very common Petty Theft in Calcutta. Targets tourists in crowded places, chances are very high of getting robbed.<br><br>70% of citizens suffer from some form of respiratory problems due to air pollution.&nbsp;<br><br>"The provisional estimates of below poverty line (BPL) surveys in the city pegs the per capita income of poor in Kolkata at Rs 27 a day. The poor residing in Bengal's villages are still worse off, earning Rs 21 a day. The national per capita earning in cities and towns is Rs 32, while it is Rs 26 in villages.<br><br></div><div>Incidentally, West Bengal is fifth in the poverty charts, behind only Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. A whopping 22% of the urban population in Bengal is in BPL category.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Being one of the most populated cities in the world, roads often experience high levels of automobile traffic. Public transportation is poorly developed.<br><br>More roads are being built to accommodate for traffic, and high-tech area traffic control systems are being developed to reduce traffic.<br><a href="http://www.india-briefing.com/news/indian-infrastructure-kolkata-7103.html/">http://www.india-briefing.com/news/indian-infrastructure-kolkata-7103.html/</a><br><br>Waste-system is incredibly poor.<br>"With rapid urbanisation, the country is facing massive waste management challenge. Over 377 million urban people live in 7,935 towns and cities and generate 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste per annum. Calcutta emitted 14.8 million tonnes of CO2 in 2015. On some occasions, carbon emissions have risen higher than Delhi. Calcutta ranks as the city with the second highest emissions in all of India. This leads to air pollution<br><br>The major sources of air pollution include automobile exhausts which is about 50%, industrial emissions that is almost 48% and the rest 2% from cooking <br><br><br><br>Water is infected with animal and human fecal matter.
