MaryAnn: She is not only strong in her Faith and lives it out clearly each day but also helps others find their passion and use their skills and talents for the glory of God. What I most admire about this person is that she never sees anyone as a "lost cause" and is always willing to love them even when it's hard.
Jennifer: Jennifer is rooted in her Faith and strives to implement it into her everyday life. She is very calm and patient in her responses to others. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and take the lead even when she doesn't necessarily want to.
Brooke: Brooke has a very clear vision for her future and shares it with others in order to inspire them to come along for the journey. She doesn't let setbacks bring her down but uses them as fuel to achieve her goals in the future. She knows that all good is rooted in Christ and she needs to stay close to Him.
Sarah: Sarah isn't afraid to call people out and help them achieve the greatness they are created for. She is confident in who she is and is not afraid to share her Faith and remind people of who they are in light of Christ. She plays to her strengths and helps others do the same so they can achieve their goals.

Similarities: In all of the great leaders I have encountered in my life, the best ones are firmly rooted in their identity as a son or daughter or God, pray consistently and aren't afraid to share that Faith, whether by word or deed, with others. I'd like to ask them: "what was the catalyst to them stepping up and being a leader?" I think Mother Teresa would say "seeing very clearly a need and no one fulfilling it pushed me to step up and get out of myself." Sarah would probably say "READING! Constantly pouring belief and confidence into myself and my abilities each day so I never stop growing. Once I started reading, I started stepping up more."

What makes you a great leader?
Mother Teresa: (I mean, she wouldn't say this probably because she's so humble but...) My humility. It's not about me. It's about others.
Sarah: Playing to my strengths. I see good leaders as those who are organized, exude professionalism (in relation to their position), desire to know the people they are working with, and are willing to work with others to help them be better leaders themselves.

HOW I lead: I tend to take the path of building relationships with those that I lead in order to show them that I care about them as persons first and foremost and then helping them achieve the goals they have. For me when I think of leaders that I respect, they are people that I have looked up to or that have been a huge part in my life.

The two leaders that I admire the most are Roger Wierman and Ellen Degeneres. These are two people that I respect, and they have had a considerable impact on my life.

If I could ask Roger Wierman one question, I would ask him, "What are your biggest regret?". I think he would say that he doesn't have any regrets because each situation, person or adventure that he endured was part of God's plan for him. If I asked him what makes him a great leader, he would say that he doesn't consider himself a great leader but what makes a great leader is their ability to stay humble and do what is right.

If I could ask Ellen Degeneres one question, I would ask her, "What inspires her to see the goodness in the world?". I think she would say that we focus too much on the negative and horrible things happening in the world today and we forget all about the positive things. If I asked her what makes her a great leader, she would say that she isn't a leader just someone who wants our world to be a happy place for everyone. She would say all those people who make our world a better place are the leaders.

I admire who love for teaching and helping her students be successful. She loves everyone not matter what, and she has taught me what it means to be a great listener.
Molly Ewen: I admire and look up to Molly because of her strength and courage to overcome any that God has placed in her path. She has always taught me to never give up on my dreams.
Ben Dodge: Before he became my husband, we were best friends and I admired him. He has always been by my side no matter what. He has taught me to believe in myself and have confidence in everything that I do in life. He reminds me to be open minded and look at other people's point of view.
Roger Wierman: He has been a part of my life since I was born. He has shown me that love is stronger than anything. He has taught me to be forgiving because no one is perfect and everyone deserves a second chance. He also has taught me that failing is the best way to learn. I lead through role modeling positive behavior. As a leader, I want to provide support to all staff to help them become strong leaders. I feel that being a great listener is an important trait for a leader to have. However, he "rejected the idea of becoming king as inappropriate and dishonorable. He fought the war for the sake of the American Republic, not for his personal self-aggrandizement."
If I could ask George Washington one question it would be: “What’s been the hardest part of leading/setting up a new country?” I think he’d say that the hardest part would be getting people with different beliefs to work together. Another thing would be trying to use and unite the abilities of many to create something for the common good.

I think his response to the question, “What makes you a great leader?” would be something along these lines: I’m not sure I’m a great leader, but I try. I listen to others and look to the advice of others in areas that I’m not familiar with. I also try to be fair.

Mrs. D.- She was my 3rd grade teacher and always pushed me to be better. She was compassionate, patient, and trustworthy. I really admired how she was strict but fair. She was always happy and sincere. Mrs. D instilled proper manners in all of her students. She taught us how to be polite and expected us to show it. In my class, I had a few classmates who were hyper and disruptive, but she never lost her temper with them. When she talked to us, she was always calm which put us at ease.
Cindy- Cindy was my first principal. She had may of the same qualities as Mrs. D. She is a very pleasant person to be around. She was actively involved with students and staff. She respected everyone and was caring, funny, sincere, and determined. I think the biggest thing she taught me was that I can't control everything. She was strong in her faith and instill that strength in me. I grew more spiritually when I worked with her.
Mrs. Gronski- I student taught in her classroom in Superior. She showed great empathy and compassion for the children. Many of them came from troubled or impoverish homes. She never treated them differently and always had an extra smile waiting for them. She taught me many things, but the thing I remember most is her humility . She was always willing to laugh at herself. She told me that if I take things too seriously, I'd never enjoy being a teacher. Self-awareness- They were calm, determined, and slow to anger. I would also put strong in her faith in this category.
Social Awareness- Because they were compassionate and empathic, they took the time to understand people rather than judge them. They were polite and respectful to everyone which was a great way to model to the students how people should act in social settings.
Self-Management- I would also put calm and slow to anger in this category as well because if you are aware of your emotions enough to control your actions. Sometimes, I know I'm on the brink of losing my calm, but can't stop it (usually at home).
Relationship Management- trustworthy, easy going, polite, pleasant. When people have these traits, others want to be around them. Often just being around people like this we start to imitate them.
Intellect & Technical Experience- Many knew just how to motivate the students and staff. They knew their content area and could point me to a resource when I was struggling. They were constantly striving to improve themselves through workshops, lectures, books, and observations.

They were all compassionate, patient, easygoing, sincere, and respected everyone. They were polite, humble, and calming which made it pleasant to be around them. Also, they all had positive attitudes. Each one pushed me in a special way: Mrs. D. was my inspiration to become a teacher; Mrs. Gronski taught me perseverance and how to laugh at myself and enjoy it; Cindy showed me how my faith could lead me to be a better teacher, taught me about humility, and how to be more empathic. Because of these people, my assumption of a good leader is someone who respects everyone, is kind, patient, polite, keeps their emotions in check, and is a person that someone wants to be near and imitate. They are also determined and continuously seek out ways to learn new things.

As I lead, I try to bring a piece of each of them along. I’m strict but fair. I’m empathetic and compassionate with those around me. One thing I’d like to teach those that I lead is to laugh at themselves because it’s okay to make mistakes; we all do it and learn from them. I’d like to lead through a growth mindset. The main thing I’d like to pass on is to just enjoy it. If you focus on all the things you “did wrong,” you can’t enjoy the whole picture which is the best part.
