Lesson title: Teaching Uniform Etiquette

lesson objective: To ensure the Sec 1s know the proper uniform etiquettes

Target students: Sec 1s (newly joined)

Attire: Full Uniform

Location: Classroom 4-4

Safety Precautions: NIL

Different stages & timing

Stage 1: Go up to class (2 mins)

Stage 2: Talk and explain the rules and regulations about the headdress (5 mins)

Stage 3: Talk about the blouse - name tag, badges, ranks and formation badges (15 mins)

Stage 4: Talk about skirts and pants - shorts under skirts and pants can’t alter too short. (5 mins)

Stage 5: Talk about belt and the requirements of wearing the belt properly (3 mins)

Stage 6: Talk about footwear - must wear long black socks, boots MUST be polished, boys MUST tie chain knot. (5 mins)

Debrief: Inform them that uniform has to be neat - iron line has to be seen and badges are straight. Do a quick quiz to ensure everyone understands the rules and expectations. (10 mins)

Stage Activity Duration

0. Pre-preparation 3 mins

1. Briefing on how to prepare NPCC uniform from head to toe 5 mins

2. Teaching of how to season beret correctly. 4 mins

3. Teach how to iron uniform correctly. *must say the important points such as do not iron uniform until it has a burnt mark. 5 mins

4. Teach how to pin the badges , formation badge and rank correctly , show them how to go to the website and arrange the badges by their name and how to earn them. ( water break) 35mins

5. Tell them how do we wear the uniform neatly and how teach the males how to wear their boots while the females will try to make a bun and wear beret neatly. 8 min

6. Inform them (female and male) to alter their skirt/pants if needed to. 2mins

7. Teach how to polish boots ( water break) 4mins

8. 2 cadets , 1 female and 1 male -> show to the newer cadets on how the uniform should look like. 2mins

9. Debrief Total: 68mins

The Power of Clear Communication

As a Cadet Leader, I need to give firm but clear, simple, and precise commands to my juniors, while my tone of voice should be firm but approachable. When my juniors understand me clearly, it builds their confidence, and the squad works better.

Patience and Understanding

As a Cadet Leader, I know the importance of patience. I am supposed to guide juniors through their mistakes and encourage them along their journey. By understanding and giving them time to improve.

Leading by Example

Over time, I learned that everything I do regarding my discipline. If I want my juniors to be focused and respectful, I must set that example myself. It means not giving out orders but, through example and action, demonstrating what is the acceptable standard expected from others.

To be clear when communicating with my juniors. I will give clear instructions to them so that they will be able to understand me clearly.
To be patient with my juniors. I will be patient and understanding of my juniors especially when receiving their feedback.
To not be too strict but a leader who is able to interact and engage with the juniors. By doing so, i will be seen as an approachable leader.

I find it fascinating that there are more than one leadership skills and I feel that it is convenient that we can use more than one leadership skills when dealing with different types of situations during training.
I learnt that I need to plan our trainings and that we must be very organised and specific when conducting training.
We need to communicate properly with our juniors as they might still be confused about certain things as they have newly joined.

I found the different types of Mentorship skills interesting as there are different types of leadership skills that we are able to use.
I also think that planning and conducting the trainings are interesting as we need to be thoroughly trained and organised while maintaining our responsibilities as seniors to ensure that the juniors feel comfortable and confident in NPCC.
