My (usual) Favorite Artist

I say usual because this really depends on my mood at any point of the day, but most of the time the title of 'favorite' would go to PilotRedSun (music handle is PilotRedSky on YouTube). He mainly makes IDM, which is basically EDM but more atmospheric sounding. None of his songs have lyrics, and some can be a bit harsh or odd sounding, such as his song Fat Cat on the album Achievement. Easily my favorite songs of his are Laughcry Dubtron and Warsaw. PilotRedSun also made many animations on YouTube that usually have some surreal and unnerving energy to them.

Flute, or some other kind of woodwind. I think it may be the calming sound of a flute along with how intuitive it appears to be is what draws me to want to learn to play this instrument. I would view it as an extension of whistling, which I think I'm somewhat decent at, and would just feel fun to play on a nature hike or a setting like that.

Gives me the feels, in that it can connect to me on some personal level and make me feel some emotion almost on command. Besides the aforementioned PilotRedSun, another artist that does this for me is definitely Mitski. While yeah, most of her songs have a pretty depressing feel to them and can make me feel even more sad if I'm listening to them and am already in a low mood, they help bring out what would instead be a repressed feeling of sadness. Plus her songs are just so good to sing at night or in the car, looking at you Me and My Husband, Francis Forever, or Liquid Smooth.

My Dad playing the guitar, of which he is very experienced now. Back in 6th grade he tried to get me to play the guitar, which I did practice for a while, but it just never clicked for me, so perhaps string instruments are not really my thing. That being said, over the pandemic (and honestly still now) my Dad has been practicing Gypsy Jazz and Django Reinhardt. Ever since I can remember though my Dad has been playing the guitar.

How has my music taste changed?

Well it's not really so much my music taste has changed, it's just that some artists I used to listen to I just don't find all that intriguing anymore. An example I could easily give is Tame Impala, who I listened to in 2021 and the first half of 2022. When the lyrics stopped being relatable and after I played Currents (one of their albums) to death I was just kind of done. I also listened to playlists with ambient beats around the same time, but again, they just got old after a while.

Hadestown, specifically, the original broadway cast of Hadestown. The performances given by the original cast are astounding. André De Shields, Amber Gray, Eva Noblezada, and Patrick Page all have such a large vocal range, and seemingly never run out of breath.

Danger 'music'. I have music in quotes here since the majority sounds like noise with little consistency. The 'danger' part stems from the idea that danger music causes harm in either the performer or listener. An example of a peformer that is harmed by playing danger music is Justice Yeldham (aka Lucas Abelo) who plays a piece of broken glass with a small microphone connected to it.

This is also another piece of music trivia I suppose. A reconstructed rendition of the earliest known recorded piece of music, known as "Hurrian Hymn to Nikkal no. 6", I find very relaxing to hear. There are multiple renditions on YouTube, though the Braydon Olson one is my favorite.

Granted they're not really a band I listen to (prog rock is decent I suppose), but I still enjoyed singing along with the sound blasting out of the stacks of speakers.
