Jimmy Cross led the troops into the field of sewage and Kiowa eventually died. Sanders did not ever forgive Cross because he thought that it was fully Cross' fault. Sanders was mad at Cross for not thinking straight and not taking fault. This shows how Sanders really sticks to his morals. Sanders has always stuck to what he believes in. He has a strong belief in doing what is right, When they were in the dark jungle, Sanders was hearing mysterious voices and he couldn't explain them to anyone. Sanders just tried to focus on the soldiers' voices in person. Sanders is honest and always does what's right. Both of these events opened up our eyes greatly about Mitchell Sanders.

Mitchell Sanders was an honest man who always believed in doing the right things and taking pride in himself. This poem's focus is honesty. Two lines are "Man much respected he was-honest opinions he gave" Sanders always said what he thought was correct. One example is believing Kiowa's death was Jimmy Cross' fault. Another part of the poem is "All tolerated him with smile; even if negative, men brave"
Sanders was well respected and almost a sidekick to Tim O'Brien. Some soldiers might not have liked Sanders, but they had to respect the pride and dedication that he put into everything. Mitchell Sanders ties exactly to this poem because the poem talks about a man who has dedication and has honesty.

Mitchell Sanders is a character that does not have much depth to him. In everything he says, he tells his either black or white. Sanders once said, "you win some, you lose some."(pg.11) This is a typical quote from Sanders because he does not go into detail. He is hardnosed and does not fear most things. He also does not like to admit or express his feelings willingly. Another expression of Sanders is a quote by O'Brien. “I remember Mitchell Sanders sitting quietly in the shade of an old banyan tree. He was using a thumbnail to pry off the body lice, working slowly, carefully depositing the lice in a blue USO envelope. His eyes were tired. It had been a long two weeks in the bush. After an hour or so he sealed up the envelope, wrote FREE in the upper right-hand corner, and addressed it to his draft board in Ohio.” This explain Sanders because he was sort of awkward and straight to the point. Sanders was explaining the rough times of the war in an unusual way.

"Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die Men who mean just what they say The brave men of the Green Beret." Mitchell Sanders was one of the most proud soldiers because he had lots of pride. He stood his ground and was very strong. The meaning of this song is to describe the times of the Vietnam war.

I chose this background because Kiowa's death was influential to Mitchell Sanders. He thought that it was all Jimmy Cross' fault that he led the troops into the dangerous "swamp-like" field. This is a picture of mud with a shoe print. It puts a reminder on Kiowa's death, which was influential to Sanders. Sanders did not forgive Jimmy Cross for his mistake. Cross always stuck up for what he believed in.
