Javi was a very bright colleague who I admired. I had the honor of working with her as a case manager for one of my students. She was knowledgeable, patient and kind. When I reached out to the family to tell them of her passing, they were devastated. It was obvious how much she touched their lives. She will be missed.

Words can’t even begin to express how much I will miss my friend. She was one of a kind. She was interesting, fun, caring, kind, gentle, and encouraging. Anyone who knew her knew this. I was thinking about what made her so good at her relationship with all others... friends, colleagues, students, family... in this tragedy I realize what it was. She cared. She listened as though she were totally interested because she actually was. She loved life and she loved people. Anyone who talked to her could feel that honesty and that’s why she was admired. She will be missed and already is but willbe remembered forever. Rest In Peace, Javi.

Javi was something special... she had a way of listening to people and making them feel as if they were the only person who mattered to her. She was honest - but not to a fault - she got it just right every time. Javi cared more than most. Sitting with her in a meeting or with a student was a learning experience. She had a way with people that I admired. Javi was a true artist - art was everywhere. I remember her coming into my classroom once when we were doing a project. She discussed with a few students how they could add a pop of color to what they were doing to make it more interesting. That memory reminds me of the red lipstick or fun jewelry that were a part of her style. Javi will never know how many lives she touched but I hope she knows how much she is appreciated and loved. Rest easy, my friend.

Thanks to BCSS we became colleagues and worked together for 5 years. Thanks to you we became friends forever. I regret not being able to see you for lunch 2 months ago. I am so sorry work got it in the way. Life didn’t seem to help us either. Between your hopping schedule and mine, there were always obstacles to us being able to hang. But at least we had our group texts that I cherished because it extended a piece of you that always made me smile. Our conversations, our commentary, our wicked sense of humor. Who am I going to text my inappropriate jokes to? Who will I share my family drama with? You always managed to get me, and I got you. Not too many people could. I will always hold you in my heart. I love you Javi and miss you so much. By the way you were not funny leaving on April fools day. I prayed it was a ridiculous joke and that I would tell you off when I saw you next. God I wish this was a bad joke, Rest in peace mujer. I hope your with your abuelita.
Forever your friend,
Lisa

I always enjoyed a good Javi story when I would ask how her weekend went. Although very different than my own, I admire her style and sense of attitude but still cared so lovingly to those around her. Her weekend story typically wrapped up with spending it with her family eating a meal or cooking together. Working alongside Javi, she instilled in me the insight on how to better work with students emotionally as a total student package. She was beyond dedicated to her students, stopping whatever she is doing to address the needs of someone in need.

I’ll miss how you brought students together with tea time and how special that is as a family tradition

I’ll always reflect on the insight she left with me .
