Day 1: Public Park

I live across the street form one of the many parks that surround the area. There are three parks within walking distance from the center of the city. This park is very lively and hosts a lot of community events for holidays, the just held one for labor day with bounce houses and food. There's also a pool that is attached to the park that is open from June-August.

Day 1: Malden Center

There's a T location right down the street from where I live surrounded by many local gems. There are multiple locally owned restaurants that feed the community. There are also a few locally owned businesses, such as nail salons or book stores. There are even a few doctors office conveniently located in the center as well.

Day 1: Malden Public Library

I live not too far from our local library. They host a lot of events for the community such as paint nights or song and rhyme time for younger kids. they also hold classes such as english conversation to help people learn english. They also have job fairs to help people get into their ideal careers.

Day 1: Local activities

Theres a lot of activities to do in Malden. This is a board that has all of the places where you can play games in the center. This shows there are many options to explore and connect with others. Boda Borg is an agility course that a lot of kids go to with friends. Our community has a lot of children that enjoy going there as well as the electronic gaming options available.

Day 1: Community information

Around Malden, there are these boards that have local news posted on them. There's also one that has what's going on at UMass Boston across the street from the high school to engage students. Our community is very walkable so having these to share information is very beneficial.

Day 1: YMCA

There's a YMCA not too far from my house. They host a lot of classes and events for the community. During the summer they hose food drives for families who can get free lunches. They have open swim as well as a gym upstairs. There's also a therapeutic pool and a hot tub to relax in decompress in.

Day 1: Community Pool

This is the outside of the pool attached to the park. The pool is free for Malden residents, you just have to show proof. The pool is open from morning till dusk and is packed for most of that time. Kids can meet each other and make new friends which also gets parents to converse with one another.

Day 1: Learning center

This is one of the learning centers in the center of town. As a community with many children, its very convenient to have the learning center so close to everything. Parents and guardians have a place they can drop off their child that is teaching them valuable skills.

Day 2: Another view of the park

I wanted to get another perspective of the park to help visualize it. This is a very important part of the community so I felt it was important to show the park itself. I went into further detail on my Day 1 post about the affects the park has on the community.

Day 2: Malden Housing Authority

In this building is the head office for malden housing authority. This is were people go to get housing assistance such as section 8 so they can afford housing. You get a voucher for a certain amount of bedrooms and based on your income you pay a certain amount of the rent for your place. This is so important for people to be able to have afordable housing given the current market.

Day 2: Malden High School

This is the high school that is near malden center. I feel as though schools are important to communities because they make them more lively. There's a lot more foot traffic when the kids are going to and from school. The school also helps local businesses if they are located near by because the students are more apt to go to them after they get out or before. There is a Dunkin that is a popular spot for kids to go and get food after school as well as a pizza place.
