From this semester I think the King Menkaure (Mycerinus) and queen statues have stuck with me most. The way they carry themselves and the position they hold tells about their timelessness and eternal nature. To me, it's almost like they calmly understand what is waiting for them in the next life, ready to take that step side by side into the eternities. I guess I appreciate this one most because the thought of cleaving unto, or being equally yoked with other person (like how these figures appear) is one of sentiment. Growing up my parents lacked that unity and companionship, so looking at this particular piece gives me hope and a sense of what could be in the future.

Menkaure and His Wife, Khamerernebty II, from Giza.
