These witch trials in Salem were very real things that happened and they were very scary at the time. This picture shows the severity of the trials if you denied being a witch there were some bad consequences. You were most likely hanged or executed for being a witch. The only way to survive was to say you were a witch it sounds dumb but you would have been forgiven by god so the people would let you go only to ridicule you forever. These were very dire times that caused a lot of division in the city creating many bad situations and false allegations.

The Puritans

The puritans were very holy people who like in the name thought they were very pure. The puritans had a strict ideology that was to only believe in god and try to be a good person. As when you are born you were already doomed with sin. Many didn't know if they would go to heaven or hell but they did what they were told and stayed loyal and faithful people. The puritans whole life revolved around religion as many left England to pursue freedom of religion so it was mandatory that you had the same idea as the fellow Puritan.

Witch Craft was already a thing that most humans knew about it went back a long time in the past. Still there were many doubts and ideas about it especially with the Puritans. The Puritans believed anything bad that ever happened to them was the work of the devil and witch craft. Bad weather witch craft, disease was witch craft, famine and droughts it was all witch craft. no doubt many Puritans were very scared of it and were very confused about that and the devil. And when some girls were acting very weird and talked about witch craft no wonder everyone in the city was scared and ready to go against it without hesitation.

Salem was known for the witch trials and everything that happened there but theres a lot to it. Salem was settled by Puritans and it was shaped in the Puritan lifestyle. It was a very religion based society and holy it housed many Puritans and shaped most of the U.S. it was shaped that way because it gave off many ideas like better education which was very focused here. There was also focus on religion which is a must in the U.S. There was a lot of focus on who had done wrong and how easy it was to turn on your friends and family over a little attention or over jealousy which seems like a problem that has been passed on ever since Salem.

How it all started

The witch trials all started when a slave taught many young teenage girls about voodoo and witch craft. At first it seemed like fun and harmless but when the girls started to act weird and were taken to the doctor and nothing was wrong with them a lot of problems arose from it. The girls were accused of witch craft but the girls quickly denied the allegations and blamed the slave Tituba of showing them the witch craft. She did not deny it to not be killed and this really started a chain reaction of things to happen. The girls would continue to fabricate their story to get others killed or condemned by the city. It was until the story got to out of control that the girls would stop being believed but by that point it was too late and the damage had already been done.
