Know Nothing Party- people  against the uprise of immagrants coming to the U.S

Chinese Exclusion Act- prohibiting all immigration of chinese laborers.

National Origins Act-

Difficulties are malaria, diseases that thrived on the swamps and other deltas.

"Old'" Immigration- first half of the 19th. Western and Eastern Europe is where the immigrants came from. Their difficulties were Nativism.

"New" Immigration-it was around the civil war up until 1920s.  They came from Southern Europe, Asia, Greece and Italy. The difficulties they faced were new language, customs  and traditions.

Assimilation- becoming the same to others by taking in and using their customs and culture.
