Also, this protects your bare skin areas from frost bite, windburn, and sun damage (from the sun reflecting off the snow). To this day, even though I do not need hats and scarves for winter protection, I still enjoy wearing them, but I sometimes have to adjust the material to fit the climate I am living in at the time.

Hats and scarves remind me of the culture and work of my people. The people from my home state tend to work very hard, and many of us did outdoor work because of the heavily forested areas that we live in. Therefore, winter clothing gear represents the people of my home. For example, my favorite pair of earrings were made from hand-blown class from the Czech Republic. My great-great grandparents were from the Czech Republic, and when I traveled there, I purchased a pair of earrings. Hand-blown glass is an item commonly made and sold in the Czech Republic. 

I continue to buy earrings from places I travel to because I think they are great conversation starters. People will often compliment my unique earrings and it will start some lovely conversations. The first ring was given to me a promise of marriage while he was finishing college. Then, he gave me an engagement ring, and finally a wedding band on the day we were married. These three rings show my commitment to my marriage and I happily wear them. 

My wedding band is written in Gaelic, as my husband has Scottish ancestry. I began reading at an early age. I remember laying in bed reading in the dark as a child. My mom would send me to bed, but I would read late into the night (with the light off so she would think I was sleeping). I would use the light of the moon or the hallway light to aide me in my reading. I still read late into the night, but I don't have to hide it from my mom any longer.

Also, I read so much for my job. I read stories and books to share with students. I read student paper and homework. Therefore, I always choose to modestly. I make sure I am appropriately covered according to my culture's standards.  I make sure my clothing and hem lines are appropriate and that my clothing is not tight. Also, I often dress in layers to provide additional discretion. 

I also believe that we shouldn't look sloppy. Therefore, even on the weekends, if I go out, I still tend to wear professional looking clothing. I occasionally wear jeans, and of course different items for exercise. However, overall, I wear much of the same things on the weekends, evenings, and time away from work. 

However, I like to be comfortable. So, I try to find clothing items that have breathable fabric, a loose fit, and can be worn for long periods of time without irritation. 

I think my clothing items show that I am an educated person with conservative values with respect for myself and those around me.
