Roots play an important part in our environment. Roots are the most important part of a plant, taking up air, water, and nutrients from the soil and moving them up into the leaves, where they can interact with sunlight to produce sugars, flavors, and energy for the plant. When it rains, the roots hold the soil in place so it's not washed away. When soil washes away it's called erosion.
