Surveys are taken to manage and montior specie populations, as some specie struggle in the wild. I saw a lot of bird species that I had never seen before, which was a nice experience. We carry out surveys to ensure that there is a stable population of the chosen species. We carried out our survey by regularly scanning our area of the scrape and counting the number of birds seen. We saw many of the species we expected to see such as: Avocets, Shell ducks, Sandwhich Turns, A range of geese and we also heard a Bittern. We completed at least one survey throughout the day as well as picking up on a range of different skills when watching species of wildlife. However, to improve this trip further I think it would have been easier if we were given set times on when we could complete more than one proper bird surveys as we only had time to do one, and this was just on one species. I was surprised to briefly see the Bittern which was really cool. Seeing the Marsh Harriers and other birds to see were also cool. I carried out my survey in the bird hide, using 30second sweeps to found the number of birds of one species. I did this for an assignment be also gives a good indication on how successful that bird species and reserve are. I kept to the path and put my litter in the bin to not harm the habitat. -Learnt about the differences between the different types of Seagulls.

Cons:
- Planning of day layout. Should have done the survey first and then the talk second.
- Man maybe talked too much.

For example the moorhen, I didn't think I would see a moorhen at Mindsmeere. The surveys we took were so that we could see weather, for my assignment, the population of the Avocet was stable. This was important as they were once an endangered species.
