It can also reflect the life and condition of the house, to her lonely lifestyle of not depending on many people. The pure black iris draws connects to the empty ambitions that Emily had, and her dreams of being married.

I chose arsenic as one of the symbols for section three. Miss Emily went to the druggist and requested arsenic. After she left, the people in the town began to say that she would kill herself. The arsenic symboled how lonely she was, but really she used to it kill Homer Barron.

I chose silk and satin as my second symbol. In the book, it says "rustling of craned silk and satin behind jalousies" (Faulkner, 822). The silk and satin is a symbol for class and social level and how important your social level and reputation is to the society.

I chose this symbol, because the druggist writes on Emily's packet of arsenic, under the poison sign, "For rats" (Faulkner, 822). Homer was planning to break a promise to marry Emily, and eventually she kills him. Homer would be the rat and Emily would be the poison .
