Ich dachte mir, dass der Spruch dazu ziemlich passend sei, welcher mir von der Lesung im Kopf blieb. Auf der rechten Seite ist das komplette Gegenteil: Freiheit, frische Luft und Blumen, die bis zum Himmel wachsen. Die Darstellungen zu der Zeit des Krieges habe ich zuerst umgesetzt. Die Zerstörung und die schlimmen Zeiten, verursacht durch den Krieg, wollte ich durch den Schutthaufen darstellen. 
In der Mitte habe ich die vier Protagonisten gemalt, die getauschte Kleidung tagen. Diese Idee entstand durch ein Foto der Edelweißpiraten, das ich zuvor gesehen habe. Das Foto hat mir gefallen, weil es die Denkweise der Edelweißpiraten besonders deutlich vermittelt: Sie leben frei und widerstreben den vorgegebenen Weltanschauungen. 
Alle vier Protagonisten halten sich an den Händen, was zeigen soll wie eng sie miteinander verbunden sind. 
Die Edelweißblüte ist ein deutliches Symbol für die Edelweißpiraten und ihrem Wirken. 
Die Farbe Gelb habe ich als Kontrastfarbe zu den schwarzen Elementen gewählt. 
Ich hatte viel Spaß, den packenden Briefroman von Frank Maria Reifenberg künstlerisch umzusetzen."
