Mulan is experiencing both an internal and external conflict. She and Shang are hanging from a fragile rope, much like their relationship. The rope is about to break because the weight of two people is too great for it. So, Mulan can either let go of Shang or they can fall together. The fragile rope also represents Mulan and Shang's relationship. Recently, they were having problems with their relationship and argued frequently. Shang letting go of Mulan's hand and the rope not breaking symbolizes Shang's sacrifice for both Mulan's life and their relationship.

Mufasa from Lion King is facing both an internal and external conflict. The internal conflict is that his brother Scar, whom he cared and loved, betrayed him and threw him off a cliff. The external conflict is that Mufasa fell and landed in a stampede, which trampled him to death, resulting is his death.

This quote shows an internal conflict because Bruno, the person Father thinks about, is Father's son who died in a concentration camp whilst trying to help his friend, Shmuel, find his father. Since everyone in the concentration camp wore the same stripe uniform, Shmuel sneaked an extra uniform for Bruno to wear so he didn't stand out. The day that Bruno sneaked into the concentration camp was the day the soldiers were going to cremate the prisoners in the camp. Months after Bruno was cremated Mother and Father found out that he died when they found his clothes right outside the concentration camp.

"Father stayed at Out-With for another year after that and became very disliked by the other soldiers, whom he ordered around mercilessly. He went to sleep every night thinking about Bruno and woke up every morning thinking about him too." (Boyne, John, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, 2006, page 215)
