Claim: Clint Smith's video was the most influential to me today.
Evidence: Smith mentions how history is taught from the side of the winner, and how it results in gaps in knowledge of our idols, specifically the founding fathers.
Reasoning: Understanding where we've come from is important for understanding where we can go; history books gloss over the flaws in our idols. Many founding fathers owned slaves, and made efforts to ensure the oppression of african-americans, despite our image of them as bastions of freedom.

Claim: The most significant learning I got from today was the poem by Clint Smith. Evidence: This was the most significant learning for me because I wasn't aware that some of our country's most famous presidents of our history were also slave owners such as George Washington, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, etc.
Reasoning: For so long, our country had praised these presidents for all of the good they did, and because of that, it overlooked the secrets that these presidents were covering up, such as the fact that they themselves owned slaves as well.

Claim: We only hear one side of the story
Evidence: A lot of what we learn in class and throughout is mostly about Columbus and how he discovered america, how the USA was founded, how the declaration was written, but never about the Native Americans who lost their lives or the slaves that built the nation and how unreal the declaration was. Also the Colonies wanted to rebel and make the USA because they wanted to keep slaves.
Reasoning:The fact that we only learn about the 'white' side of history and how it is made to look great is crazy, especially considering what actually happened. The side we hear and learn about also is prejudiced against the people who actually did the work (people of color) because they do not get any credit and not much has changed.

In the second video she talked about how slavery had help to shape this country to what it is, and how black people played a big roll in history in general. Some much created is given to the white people, and not enough is given to those who actually did something to improve the world that we live in today.

I think the second video we watched was most influential to me because she says that America wouldn't be around without black people which i completely agree with and i think that fact needs to be addressed more often.
I think that fact is true because if you look at history America relied on slavery for about a third of its time being founded. America has done many accomplishments that would never have been completed without the profit off of the back and unpaid labor of slaves back then and that needs to be addressed more often in my opinion.

He talks about the history and the problems that Africa American's had to face how they were used as a tool for example to fight in the wars and more.
Evidence- For example "How many brown bodies do you have to bull-dose before you can call it progress..."
Reasoning- This matter the most/ and why others should know about this is because this just shows how the word "Progress" doesn't mean anything you can call it progress but when will we actually see it.

Claim: The most meaningful learning to me is that racism is covered up in this country.
Evidence: This was exampled when Clint said oppression may be erased from textbooks doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Also, as the fireworks for independence went off remember where we were watching.
Reasoning: This should reach those because it is critical to understand how racism and history are covered up in this country in general. It's because it's from the perspective of those upholding the oppression. And also how that an abundance of freedoms and liberties we were taught about were excluded black people and a lot of other marginalized groups of people.

The men we celebrate and praise for building Americas foundation were explicit in oppressing the black community and contributing to slavery and other crimes against the community.

Evidence:
Clint Smith mentions major white figures in history including the founding fathers and states their betrayal and crime against the community. Questioning basically all they stand for considered heroes and role models.

Reasoning:

It makes me think about all we stand for as a nation we are the land of the free but forget about the atrocities we've committed against brothers and sisters and we continue without even blinking an eye. Why are these men still kept in light, why are they still seen as heroes, why are black lives still being questioned? Black voices need to stop being silenced.

Claim: America has tried to hide what we should know about black history
Evidence: They teach that Jefferson was a founding father, but not that he owned slaves.
Reasoning: It matters because all of this just stopped not to long ago and we still have some people out here that think slaves should be allowed.

Claim: The most meaningful learning today for me was the poem by Clint Smith.
Evidence: For example, when we talk about the founding fathers we talk about the Declaration of Independence but we don't talk about the slaves involved in their lives, being put in unjust circumstances.
Reasoning: This matters because this leaves us ignorant in a way. These public figures are portrayed in a biased light, that doesn't account for the slavery and scandals happening.
