Hello my name is Thomas Edison. I was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio.  My parent names were Nancy Elliot and Samuel Edison Jr. and my mom worked as a teacher.  I had 6 siblings.  I spent my early childhood years exploring the town, the woods surrounding the area and watching boats on the Milan Canal.  I had a mental illness we would now consider ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).  I went to school at my home taught by my mother.

      My main goals were, like my friend Henry Ford, I had a knack for recognizing a consumer need then creating a product to satisfy that need.  I accomplished these goals by working hard and with honest purpose.  My profession was being an inventor.  

My accomplishments were being an inventor and industrialist which later became cultural icon. My worst failure was when I made the Electrographic Vote Recorder. Some obstacles I had to overcome were becoming deaf from Scarlet Fever and I had learning difficulties.  

I contributed to the world by being more responsible than anyone else for creating the modern world.  No one did more to shape the physical and cultural makeup of present day civilization.

My inspirations were my mom and dad because they taught me everything I know.

In 1871, I married Mary Stilwell and she died during 1884.  1886, I married Mina.  I died at my home, “Glennmont”, from complications of diabetes at West Orange, New Jersey, on 10-18-1931 at 84 years old.

      I published my first newspaper when I was 12.  I also was afraid of the dark and I sold newspapers and candy.  Henry Ford was my best friend.
