Data is fed into computers; the software guides the processing by the computer through set procedures and outputs information for use by people either in business or private life in a usable form.
An example would be purchasing a product on line.
You would select the item you wished to purchase, and the information system would immediately confirm that that item was available for purchase and despatch, while also supplying the price you would be required to pay.
Some businesses dealing with international customers will even set up their information system to convert prices into your local currency at current conversion rates.
You would fill in a form giving your first name, last name, and address, email address and phone number before being taken to payment software where you would complete details of your choice of payment method.
Now the information system would produce an invoice detailing date of purchase, your name, postal and/or delivery address, a description of what you had purchased and its price, calculated any tax payable and the total amount paid by you.

For many years only the first 5 were used, but with onine access feedback has now become important, and using data analytics allows this feedback to be integrated back into the system.
